New Gaming PC

Featured Replies

Comrades,

The time has come for me to buy a new gaming PC for LCPDFR and games coming out in 2015 and beyond. Wanting to run GTA IV (+ENB), GTA V, Arma 3, Tom Clancy: The Division, Tom Clancy: Rainbow Six Siege, on ultra settings. Just bought a new monitor too (Samsung S24D390H). Do you think the following build will be able to do this? I'm not the best with computers so any response is greatly appreciated! The build is roughly going to cost me £1000.

Processor: Intel-Core I7-4790 CPU, Quad Core = £258

Motherboard: Asus Z97-C, Intel Z97, 1150, ATX, CrossFire = £105

Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 16GB (2x8GB) = £108

HDD: Seagate 3.5 2TB Sata3  = £69

Power Supply: Corsair PSU 750W CX = £76

Video Card: Galax GTX970 EXOC, 4GB DDR5 = £306

Case: AVP Wolverine Green MIDI Tower ATX = £39

Drives: Samsung (SH-224DB) DVD Re-Writer = £11

OS: Windows 8.1

Cheers!

Those specs are very similar to mine, and I can run any ENB on ultra with 60+ FPS, and game at all with 60 FPS to be exact. You should be just fine on next gen games :). I Like the case btw.

GPU: EVGA GTX 970 FTW Edition CPU: i5 4690k @3.8GHz Ram: 8GB
Storage: 120GB SSD, 1TB HDD Mobo: Asus Z97-K ATX PSU: Coolermaster v550 80+ Gold
CPU Cooler: Entermax ETS

Absolutely. Great looking PC.

You might want to opt for a new case though. I'm not so sure that one is great on cable management, but if you like the colors that's fine.

Cheers! What kind of case would you recommend? Is there anything else that you'd recommend? What do you think of the monitor I bought?

For that price range the NZXT S340 is a very nice but  basic looking case, with great cable management (I love the case so much).

If you want to spend a little bit more, the Fractal Design Define R5 (there are windowed/non windowed versions) are very nice, silent, and have great airflow. The NZXT H440 has a very nice side window, comes in a ton of colors, and great cable management. The Phanteks Enthoo Pro is a sleek looking case, and I've heard great things about it. A little bit less than the H440 or Define R5, but looks just as nice.

The monitor looks great, though I've never heard of a company labeling it as "23.6 inches". Nothing bad, just never heard of it.

Chose the FDD R5 as my new case. Will I need to buy anything for it?

There seems to be alternative makers of the GTX970 including Galax, Asus, EVGA, MSI, etc... Is there anything different between them? They all have different prices. Would you say there's any need for me to buy a DVD Writer/optical drive? As I've heard that most new computers are going without them. What is overclocking and will I be able to do it with this build?

The different brands have different designs, basically.  Some have 2 fans, some have 1 fan, but as long as the card name (gtx 970 4gb DDR5) after the brand is the same there shouldn't be much of a difference.  I'm sure there are some brands people stand by, I've heard Gigabyte is good.  As far as the DVD drive- do you have any games on CD?  Is your OS on a CD?  If yes to those, you either could buy one and put it in or just buy an external cd drive (but those are probably more expensive...).  Otherwise, it's up to what you see yourself doing with your PC.  Overclocking allows for increasing processor speed (like 3.9 ghz to 4.3 ghz).  Unless you're good with technology I wouldn't recommend it.  If done wrong it can dramatically shorten your products life, and an I7 is good enough as it is!  Same with the 970, that should have no issues with games!

I hope I helped, I saw nobody answered you!

I would personally go for a different mobo. The Z97A is a better option imo

If you are willing to spend a bit more, the Z97 PRO has some extra features that are worth taking a look at it

Main differences between the A vs the PRO~

Z97-A has a lower-end audio CODEC than the Z97-Pro does, 2 PCI slots instead of PCI-e x1 slots (two PCI-e x1 on the Z97-A, four PCI-e x1 on the Z97-Pro).

Also, 8-phase instead of 12-phase power delivery.

Feel free to PM me for help! Also please hit the like button if anything I said helped or made ya laugh. Specialty is computer hardware and assembling so feel free to ask anything if you need help :)
