Hello Fellow Users..

That's all about to change as im Moving to Las Vegas to Help Care for my grandmother, and get out of an Unhealthy Environment with my Parents. With that Said i have a Question or two for anyone who lives in the Vegas Area... Beginning with How is it? whats the Traffic like? Anyone from North Las Vegas on the Forums? I'm excited about moving there and Driving Cross-Country to get there, Should be fun. Do any of you that are From LV have any tips?

Hey there Jason! While change is not always welcome, sometimes it really is for the best. I have never been to Vegas, however hope to some day make my way out there as a tourist :P

Be sure to check out ExplorerMetro ( http://www.lvmpdexplorers.com/) when you get there, definitely a great organization to be a part of!

Wish you safe travels, and a beautiful new page in life.

Regards,

I went to Vegas last month (and a couple more times before that). I don't claim to be a local, nor do I claim to be a Vegas expert, so take what I saw with a grain of salt. I just have family that happens to own real estate in Vegas.

As you probably already know, Vegas is a desert...so it's HOT in the summer, but it's also pretty cold in the winter time. I was walking around the Strip in 40 degree weather. It's fine in the day though. Being from Maryland, it probably won't be too bad for you. The climate, as you would expect, is also very dry. My poor skin and lips were so crying by the end of my trip. From my experience driving around Vegas, traffic is alright outside of the Strip. The freeways get a little dicey though, especially around rush hour.

As for North Las Vegas, it depends on where you are. According to family, there are some pretty run-down, nasty parts of North Las Vegas, but again, it depends. North Las Vegas is a pretty big city in and of itself.

Like I said before, this is just what I know from visiting there and by no means do I claim that it is accurate. If anyone that is actually from Vegas, feel free to rip me apart if anything is wrong.

North Las Vegas is ghetto.

If you're moving to Vegas (which I recommend against as whole, the city is just bad) move to a nice area like Summerlin.

I Can't Change where i'm Moving and i don't Mind.. i Live in a ghetto Area in Maryland Anyway..

Who is telling you that you *have* to live in North Las Vegas?

Summerlin isn't far, and it's much, much nicer. If you live in a ghetto area now, why not get away from it?

I used to live in Henderson, Nv for two years. It's about 20 mins south of Las Vegas. I would love the fact that there was sooo much to do. Even being 14/15 at the time there was plenty to do. Drivers are jackasses complete jack asses, but as long as you stay out away from Las Vegas Blvd (the strip) traffic isn't too terribly bad. My favorite thing about living there was probably the weather. In the summer a lovely 90-100 F everyday, accompanied with a pool. In the winter 60-70 maybe 50's in the morning. Boy do I miss it... I live in Minnsnowta and the weather is the exact opposite of Nv... But hey, I will be back there in 2 years so for now I will enjoy my snow.  I wish you the best of luck and I hope that you enjoy this new endeavor that life has presented you!

I would take what people tell you with a grain of salt, especially the people who have only visited. I can tell you that when I lived in the DC area and my family went on vacation to Florida I thought it was great. After living in northern VA for 10 years my family got moved to Tampa, FL due to my dad's job. I can tell you that visiting Florida and living in Florida are completely different. I will tell people that I hated living in Florida more than anywhere else I've ever lived and they will come back and tell me about how they've been to Florida so many times and it is a great place and how they had awesome vacations there. Yeah, I've had great vacations in Florida too but until you have to live there you can't tell me it is a great state.

In regards to Las Vegas, I have never been there so I couldn't tell you anything about it. It does share some similar qualities with Florida so I can't imagine it being too much different. I have lived in a desert though and I can tell you it sucks. Enjoy seeing green while you can. I loved living in the DC area and as soon as I'm done with my tour here I am moving back to it.
