GTA IV suddenly lags

Featured Replies

Hello everyone. I have very frustrating problem with my FPS in GTA IV. I haven't played GTA IV for about 2 months until new version of LCPD FR was released. I installed it as I usually do, ran the game and it was so laggly I could even run to police station from first apartment. I said ok maybe some process was killing my memory so I restarted computer. I launched the game again and it was lagging again. I was worried since then and decidet to remove ENB series. I did it and ran the game again and it was lagging. I forgot to mention I used to play GTA IV with ENB series and every emergency vehicle modded for about 30-45min before the lag occurs. I uninstalled the game and did a fresh install. I again launched GTA and it was lagging....again. I completely removed all mods after uninstalling so it really was a fresh install.

I used to have stable FPS couple years ago and I can't remember why.

So I googled for my problem and found bunch of fixes and really tried everything. I am trying to fix lag in GTA IV for like 2 years now.

I have GTX 650 Palit 2GB, quad core processor 2,4GHz, 6GB of RAM.

As I said I used to have very stable FPS and I could watch the ELS lights works perfectly without lags for like 1 hour because I was amazed  :smile:

and now I can't even play with Vanilla police cars and LCPD FR only.

I used to have ATI Radeon 4850 with 512mb when I could play with perfect FPS so this is really annoying me. I know GTA IV is bad port and I tried to change from Intel graphics to my GTX but Intel was already disabled. I disabled event log and collector in msconfig. I swear to you I tried everything with no result.

I hope there is someone on this forum who had really major problem like I do and I could really use some help

If you are using LCPDFR 1.0d, go into the config file and set the following to false:

[Main]

...

AutoSaveEnabled=True

this will disable the new Auto Saving feature that came with 1.0d, and will hopefully improve your performance. If it doesn't, you might have an underlying PC issue.

It's still possible a process is hogging memory for your system.  Also, to be sure you are using your discrete graphics card, make sure the display cable is connected to the actual card rather than the motherboard. Also, although it seems insignificant, changing your Windows power scheme from Power Saver to Perfrormance made a dramatic difference on my laptop.

Do you mean that 4 gb are used by your system at idle?!  That is a ton of memory usage!  That is most definitely the cause of your low FPS.  If you can't solve the problem, I would suggest reinstalling your operating system.
