AI in police pursuits

Oh now I understand completely. Yeah I thought the rotation would change with the player.

However about the following thing, is possible, without the ai cops trying to crash into one another. You can check it out with the SNT, that if you set multiple bodyguards to follow you in a different cars, they'll try to "fight" for being the closest to the player, however they'll still "respect" the other ai driver, and they'll try to evade them. What this can cause is weird driving behaviour, like them trying to go left right left right trying hard not to crash into the other one. It's really hard to explain, so if I wasn't clear enough, you should check that option out in SNT, or just try to go in TLaD and drive in a pack with some of your ai biker friends. If I remember well, this following thing works better in TLaD, while if you want to use this in TBoGT or GTA IV, the ai will more likely crash into you. (if you set their speed limit low, it shouldn't happen that often).

Or speaking of TLaD, I have a new idea. They could make the whole police chase like, when you are doing the first mission, and you have to stay in formation with your biker friends. In that mission they are driving on the left side of the road as well, however since there are bikers who are driving behind the lead character, it should be possible to just make the ai drive behind the suspect. This would ofcourse mean the cops would move in formation with the suspect, like they were friends or something, but still I believe this might look good. Also it shouldn't eat up too many resources, since it works well in TLaD.

I just turn off AI pursuits and never call the pursuit in. It is a bit silly not having back-up units but at-least I don't get T-boned at every intersection.

  • Having them follow you is a bad idea, if you crash into another car or miss a turning while in a pursuit, or if you end up rolling over a lamppost into a hedge the AI is gonna follow you into said hed

There is a way that sort of calms them down. When in a pursuit, press F8 and it opens the Pursuit Menu. You can make them aggressive or passive, passive seems to make them a lot more courteous in thei

I'm aware of the SNT feature that lets you do that, my point remains though that they still compete for that space, they would still crash and there would still be issues, just behind you. All you did was move it.

As for TLaD. Yes the biker AI is good, but then you're asking LCPDFR to have features that only work in TLaD. The natives aren't available across the DLC (i.e TBoGT has natives that GTA IV doesn't have etc) I also don't think the ones which control the AI bikers are exposed to a scripthook or similar so are unavailable for our use. (I may be wrong though, LMS is the one who likely knows about this)

I'm with you that better AI in pursuits would be amazing, but there is only so much you can do with the base AI in GTA IV. You can paint your poo gold as much as you like, it's still poo at the end of the day.
