Third Party Mods (ELS, Vehicles, etc.)

Featured Replies

I have the steam version of GTA IV, no DLCs. I completed the story mode and installed LCPDFR .95 RC2 + ELS V6 + several vehicles + Traffic Flow V5 + GTA IV taxi bug fix, for patches 1.0.0.4-1.0.7.0 + some sound modifications. Within about 10-20 minutes of playing the mod, textures would stop showing, like I would be able to see through the floor. If that didn't happen then my game would crash with no error, just that GTA IV had stopped responding.

I tried to post in support, I read the post before posting and I followed the trouble shooting thing. I removed all the mods except LCPDFR and yes, there are no more problems as far as I can tell. But I see all these videos on youtube such as:

http://youtu.be/GMOlOvD3dWc

The video goes on for about an hour, I haven't watched all of it but I'll just assume it doesn't have any problems that I am having. The Troubleshooting thing before posting a support thread states that the mod doesn't support any third party mods yet all these videos on youtube have them and when I use them it causes my game to crash or not load textures and eventually crash. What is it that the people on youtube are doing to prevent the problems I have?

This video has every car modified and I only had police1 and police2 modified:

This sounds like a support thread but I did follow the trouble shooting thing and it did fix the problem so I'm posting this here.

My system specs are:

Windows 7 Ultimate

AMD Penom II Quad Core 3.2GHz

Nvidia GTX 560 Ti 2GB

8GB Ram

Alright, Well, Its been stated before, LCPDFR is meant to run on a version of GTA IV unmodded, LCPDFR is not causing this, Your 3rd party mods are, ELS are probably the cause of your crashes, The Texutre loss is obviously caused by your High Poly Car mods, What happens is, The game tries to load all the polys, But, It cannot, It runs out of Game memory, Your memory gets toasted, Then, Textures, models, Map images etc. Can No longer load into the games memory, Thus causing texture popping and loss of textures, So what to do? Remove some of your High Poly car mods, Only make a few, I actually only have one car modded, And I just use it Since Its my favoirte, Its also not a great Idea to mod Police 1 and Police 2 since they spawn regularly, Other than that, There not much you can do other than resort to lower poly car models, Hope this helps, JAM.

EDIT: as far as the vids, They probably have a great ammount of Vram, Or have a certain system down, Like me, Where I only have one modded, For the guy with all cars modded, Again, he might have a crazy good system, or just deals with the loss of textures over time.

First of all never mod "police1", "police2" or "polpatriot".

These are spawned by the game and will often cause the game to crash when it uses ELS. Use steam to verify the games files so that they are restored to the original then reinstall your mods but not in the slots mentioned above. Open the ELS.ini file and change ELS AI to 0

Thank you for your quick replies! Both of you have answered my questions but with your answers, comes more questions from me heh.

Any recomendations? I'm using some CVPI's from bxbugs, this one specifically: http://gtapolicemods.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=1297 . It's the closest to the police cars I see locally (LA area). I put a texture of my town onto that car. I'm specifically looking for similar lightbars (red & blue, red being on the driver's side) and a rambar that isn't wrap around.

Do I need to find other cars that are made for other slots such as noose? Or can I just change a police1 file name to noose and it will replace that model? Also, if I were to change the ELS AI to 0, how would it affect the AI spawned ELS car? I notice when I call Noose backup, sometimes they would spawn in a FIB Buffalo (which is one of the cars I plan on modding instead of police1, police2 and polpatriot.)

As far as your response to my post, BxBugs Has VERY HIGH poly's on the inside of his vehicles, Which really do cause some problems, There was another L.A Crown Vic, I used to use, Ill link it to you, it is red and blue, But has no push bar, Sorry.

As far as your response to Tom, Ill go ahead and reply, Just to clear it up, Yes, You CAN rename it, and then replace, However, make sure your replacing a simaller model, Noose would be just fine, Also, Setting AI in the .ini to 0 will just make it to where the AI do not use the els lights, There sirens will activate, But the lights wont show, It causes less lag and less possiblity to crash, JAM.

EDIT: Here are those Car mods I was speaking about: http://gtapolicemods.com/showthread.php?5050-LAPD-Vehicle-Package-%28Based-on-SouthLAnd%29

Thanks for that, I think I've used some of those cars too, the thing that bugged me was that the top of the lightbars were just grey instead of red and blue. I'll just have to deal with it haha. With that package, would I be safe to import all of them or should I just import one like you had said that you do yourself? How do you tell if a vehicle model has high poly count?

First off, Your welcome bud, And I think its a whelen liberty LIght bar, So that might be the reason why the top is Grey, Anywho, Err, I wouldn't suggset importing them all, Maybe one or two, Not in the Police 1, Or police 2 spot, And to tell If a car has a high poly count, Just look at the details, Inside and out, Does it have a ton of stuff on it? Get into first person, Look around on the inside, is it super detailed? Has A ton of "Extra" stuff like computers, Coffe cups, etc? If so, Its probably a high poly car mod, Find one that has a very simple interirior, And Decent stuff on the out side.
