Round the world Trip planning!

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, So recently over the last few months I've been researching into world-wide trips around the world. In 2016 (3 months in the summer) I plan to do a round the world trip to hopefully 6 continents and around maybe 6/7 countries. I'm really interested into the idea of going to different places with my friends and meeting new people ,eating different food and having the greatest adventure I'll ever experience in my teen years. I come from a back-round where my father and mother both traveled when they were young and they'd be more than happy to help make it happen, obviously I'd take overall financial responsibility etc. I'll be a college student and I'll have summer off so that's not a problem, I know I'll have to start saving now as a round the world flight (to around 6/7 countries) costs about 1000 (EURO).

A rough ideas of places I'd like to go to are;

  • Dublin(start/fly out from)
  • New York
  • Los Angeles
  • San Antonio / Miami / San Diego
  • Thailand
  • Sydney
  • Dubai / Norway / Sweden / Germany
  • China / South America

NOTE: These aren't in order or finalized just an idea of what I might like to do just places I'd like to go. I'm still trying to research and find out as much as I can , I'm all ears!

My Goal?, I WANT TO EXPERIENCE SOMETHING DIFFERENT, EVERYDAY... FOR 3 MONTHS.Here's a video of some Irish guys on a travelling trip around Thailand I thought was great! - http://goo.gl/RVJJnt. And here's my other favorite - http://goo.gl/GmkVhB

So, If anyone has ANY experience whatsoever of worldwide trips or travelling ,or maybe even places they've experienced or things they've done I'd be so appreciative.

If you go to Thailand, don't go to Bangkok. Koh Yao Noi is a little island just off the coast and it is probably the nicest place I've been to in Thailand. The food was amazing and people are really welcoming and friendly, even if they didn't speak a word of English.

Sydney is very expensive, but is still a lovely place to visit. Dubai, yet again is expensive, but it's a must. I lived there for about 8 months and it was a truly unique experience.

I'd also recommend visiting Singapore and Spain, too, as both are lovely.

Yes Bangkok was a place I was definitely a place I was planning on avoiding. I heard it's full of crime, dirt and sex, yet it might be an interesting place to visit I am really unsure of it it sounds very dodgy. Yes I really wanted to go to the beautiful natural parts of Thailand with the clear blue water and the high green mountains like. Could you tell me a bit more of where you've been maybe I'm so interested like and it's priceless info? Or what Thailand is like if you've just been to there? Yes Dubai was going to be a place we'd stop by maybe a week or a bit more due to it being very settled and full of retired and the rich but I can't say I know much a bout Dubai! Yes! Singapore is a place I forgot to mention I've been considering it!

It sounds like you've been traveling yourself?

Thanks for your time.

Yeah man, well hey I'd love to go to everywhere and I'm sure there's going to be places I will just simply have to prioritize but I'm from Europe myself so I was going to try and just get away from this continent and look at different places like I have one chance I don't want to particularly stay on the same soil so to speak if you get me , I want to go on a proper adventure! But hey I'll be sure to look into it. Thank You!

Thailand is lovely in general, the food, people, everything. I've been there at-least 4 or 5 times as it's really close to Australia, so it's our usual holiday spot. Most of the time we go to Phuket, but we went to Koh Yao Noi on our last holiday to Thailand. It's a lot quieter and you can hire a bicycle and cycle around the entire island in about 40 minutes or so. I think accommodation was pretty pricey though, especially when compared to Phuket. Everything else is stupidly cheap, especially as Australia is super expensive.

I've been a heck lot of places thanks to my fathers line of work (he often gets jobs that require him to work nationally and internationally, so my mother and I tag a long some times. That's also how I ended up living in Dubai). America, India, England, Turkey, Singapore, Spain, Thailand, Maldives, just to name a few. I don't particularly like traveling, but there's something about waking up at 4 AM and driving to the airport knowing you're going somewhere you've never been before. Hopefully, next year, I'll be off to Japan for my 18th. Still deciding which city though, but I think Tokyo would be awesome.

Ah yeah I've heard of Phuket alright yes! Thailand is a place I definitely want to go ,Its different and beautiful. I want a change of scenery you know. That's why I wasn't so pushed on going many places in Europe because I feel like everyone and everyone there is based off the same things. Thailand is a perfect example of it because it's different like you don't hear of anyone going there but this video really sold me (the first one in my initial post) as Iinked already. Wow yeah I'd say traveling around like that would get pretty annoying but wow that's a lot! Whats Australia like and would you recommend going anywhere in particular , Yeah Dubai is somewhere I'd like to see just seems unique ,the culture ,society everything , would it be worth it?

Thanks.

Tom.

I'd recommend staying away from most of the west coast, it sucks out here. If you do, don't stay long. You probably won't like it. If you do, go to San Francisco, that place is great.

It's hard to say what your opinion of your country is like, I mean, I like it but sometimes I wish I lived elsewhere. If you're wanting to travel to Australia, go to Sydney, Melbourne or the Great Barrier Reef. My city (Perth) is one of the most isolated on the planet and there isn't much around, but then again, Australia is basically one giant beach with a unique desert interior. This means that regardless of where you go, you'll get a different experience entirely.

Well, if you come here (Sweden), you'll have to visit Dalarna, it's nice in the summer, beautiful forests and alot of other things to see and do, for example, you could visit the Falu Copper mine, huge mine, where they give guided tours 5 days a week.

if you come to america you just HAVE to go to Washington D.C.  there's way more to see there than LA and much more beautiful, there are these mini-cruises you can take than will take you around the city on the rivers

(and there's one mini-cruise that will go up to Annapolis Maryland (where i live pretty much) and you get to see the Naval academy we have here .. another beautiful place.. )

there's tons of free museums you can go to in DC (I Think they are still free as of about 3-4 years ago they are lol)  (smithsonian museum's are what im talking about)

you can see the monuments (usually what everyone does when they go to DC) there are awesome baseball games that would be playing at the time of your trip (Washington Nationals) which play right inside the city a few blocks or so away from the national mall (where the capitol and all the museums are)

and for food if you decide to come to Washington D.C. you have to try some Maryland Blue Crab's with Old Bay Seasoning.. its the best crab's you'll ever eat

Another great place to go to in America is New Orleans.. Great Music, The French Quarter is probably the Most beautiful Place in our Country, Jefferson Square is fantastic, the Food is awesome.. (Gotta Try some Gumbo if you go there.. its just a Must) there are lots of awesome bar's (if you're of age) and just in general its an awesome city to visit  it's where all sorts of culture's mix together which is pretty rare here.

Hopefully this helps your plans at least on the America side.. I'm not much help anywhere else since i've never been outside the US in my life but the first place i would go to is Ireland, since my family is from there.

I've since decided to visit one European county before going onto other continents. Sweeden or Norway is a good option. Thanks man.

You should visit Washington State, there's a lot scenic views around.

Yeah I've considered Washington but I never heard much from it other than the White house, I don't want to be stupid and give an uneducated opinion but it seemed boring on my mind. Probably isn't but I just need to learn about it.

Wow really that's interesting DC or LA?! Yeah that's some great advice thanks man I appreciate those little tips!

But hey PS: Galway city and Dublin city are a must in Ireland.

Yeah I get you that was a silly question. Yeah so if I was to go to Sydney and Melbourne what could I do to fit in a load of activities or things to do with the small time I was there like different things to do.

I was talking about Washington State, not Washington D.C. But don't worry a lot of people get them confused.

Both are massive cities with lots to see and do, but I've only been to Sydney for two days and we just traveled around sightseeing. The Opera House and Harbour Bridge are a must see, as well as Bondi beach. Just buy an all day transit pass and hop on a bus, ferry or train to where ever you fancy.

Apologies, I'm guessing D.C is in Washington state.

Washington and Washington D.C. are completely different places located on opposite sides of the country. Washington D.C. sits between Virginia and Maryland and is a separate district that is not apart of a state. Whereas Washington, on the other hand, sits above Oregon near the Canadian border and is a state. Confusing, I know.

Yeah an all day transit pass I'm guessing is paying for all forms of transport through every time in the timetable?  Oh actually where's the set of Home & Away located?

Hmm, yes thanks for clarifying that. It is quiet confusing.
