Anime recommendation - Psycho-Pass

Featured Replies

It's unusual for I to make a post about an anime series on a law enforcement related forum but I feel this may appeal to some members.

Title: Psycho-Pass

Genres: Police, Crime Fiction, Cyberpunk, Science Fiction, Thriller, Action

Aired from: October 2012 - March 2013

Rating: R-17+ (Violence and Profanity)

The series takes place in the future, when it is possible to read and determine someones personality and state of mind to determine their likelihood of committing a crime. The series revolves around members of the Ministry of Welfare Public Safety Bureau, Criminal Investigation Department (MWPSB CID). This department is made up of latent criminals (known as Enforcers) and CID Inspectors. They are responsible for investigating serious crimes committed within a city where violence is virtually impossible.

Psycho-Pass is one of the darkest and intense anime series I have ever watched, and with a major plot twist towards the end, one of the best. The story is dark and gritty, the art and soundtrack is fantastic and the character development is superb. I'm awful at reviews so if you're interested to see what people think of this series, go ahead and read the reviews on MyAnimeList, link here.

Just a heads up, it's very violent and can actually be somewhat disturbing at times. It's definitely worth a watch though.

If you don't mind a person exploding into a shower of blood and guts every now and then, you'll be fine.

Sounds nice, i'll check it out. Thanks

It won't offend me much. I have seen some pretty disturbing junk that was in real life and it didn't bug me

Have you watched liveleak recently? lol

I'm about 90% of the way though and loving it. I uselessly don't like the darker Anime's (hated 'Future dairy's and Another) but I'm enjoying this one quite a bit.

The story is pretty good

I tend to stay away from stuff like that but I know what you mean. It's a pretty common thing to see someone die nowadays.

I loved Psycho-Pass and I didn't initially think I liked darker shows.

Mh, I might give it a try but I think I'll go for the original Japanese version

Only animes I watch are Avatar and Korra (HUGE fan of both) though it's not really anime, and Sword Art Online, not that much of a fan but's it's okay for an anime

I'm done with the first season. Watched the original Japanese version.

What I like best is the amazing soundtrack, like in the first episode when they retrieve the dominators or the usual chase theme. Downloaded them from youtube right away:D Also, laughed a bit when they played Freude schöner Götterfunken (European anthem) at one point

I really recommend you give it a try, you gotta see for yourself if you like it or not

The soundtrack is definitely one of the main selling points of Psycho-Pass. Anything with Egoist and Supercell in it is great.

Damn, I didn't expect that old ex-police officer, Masaoka, to die. I imagine that's how the real police gets killed, though - saving other's life at all costs.

Still... Makishima was partially right, I think

[yeah, I just finished season one :D]

I really gotta recommend Season 2 here, it's even better than Season 1 in my opinion, it gets more interesting with every episode, I gotta admit, I'm quite obsessed with it right now:D

Brace yourselves for episode 4 though...
