Hi. Looking at the specifications and laptop itself, would this laptop (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-17-3-laptop-intel-core-i7-8gb-memory-1tb-hard-drive-black/2990031.p?id=1219085427884&skuId=2990031&st=pcmcat287600050003_categoryid$abcat0502000&cp=1&lp=1) be good for GTA IV having a lot of scripts, and some plugins in LCPDFR installed? Would I be able to run LCPDFR and GTA 4 with a lot of stuff in it smoothly and maybe an ENB, snow mod (when it comes time), and all/any other stuff like that? And with the game hardly ever crashing and running very smoothly and a high number of fps? Will the graphics card (keeping in mind the video memory at 2GB-dedicated) be able to handle GTA 4 and a bunch of scripts, mods, ENBs, etc.? My limit with spending is about $1,300 and it has to be a laptop (no room for a desktop setup). I know the graphics card is good, but what about the video memory it can hold?

The only thing I'm kind of hesitant about is that I don't think I've ever heard of this brand before and I don't know if I should stick with a more well-known brand or not. Also I'm not too sure if 4GB of video memory is good enough for the stuff I mentioned about having in GTA above. It originally comes with a NVIDIA GeForce 860M 4.0GB (upgradeable). It is customizable, so I think, if I get it, I will probably cusomize it with a NVIDIA GeForce 870M 6.0GB (still upgradeable) for $150 more. Now, how would this be with the original 860M? I know it'll be even better with the 870M, but is it really necessary?

While the 870m 6gb would be a little overkill, it would obviously be better than the 860m. I'm guessing the 4 GB 860 should be fine and the computer in general is good. You should be fine running on medium to high. Unfortunately as you probably know, GTA IV is a terrible port and it will be sluggish on most systems, 4 GTX Titans or not. I would get the 4GB 860 and it should run. Snow mod is a little on the heavy side to run, but again, you should be fine. The main problem with a laptop though is overheating, and prepare for this. An ENB like icEnhancer would be asking for too much, as most higher end desktops can't always run it well.

 

Bottom line is that it should be great with 4GB of graphics memory. I'm fine with 3 on my HD7950. Don't expect fps above 60, and most likely around 40, because ,as I said, GTA IV is an atrocious port.

Which one, the Asus or the Sager? And 12GB ram for the video card memory or just in general for the laptop itself?

I have the asus g750 jm. And 12 GB for ram. I have the 2GB gtx 860m,aswell.

And the Asus one has the same graphics card, but with 2GB video memory. So if I were to get one I should probably stick with the Sager then, right? Because of the video card memory? Also being that the Sager upgradeable too, I could always change it...

 

The thing with my laptop is that it does run GTA 4 okay given all the stuff that's in the game, but it does get a bit laggy and crash a lot more than what I would be content with (if it crashes here and there, kind of a once-in-a-while type thing, I would be content with that). I have now a GT 635M graphics card w/ core i7 processor. I just don't know how much video card memory it has. I do know that in general the computer has 8GB RAM. And the better the graphics card is and stuff the less the game will crash?

 

And also, with the overheating problem, I won't have to worry if I get a cooling fan for it, right?

I've heard good things about sagers, don't worry. And I went with Asus because they're reliable. Every Asus I've had has lasted me a good time. I love em'. The asus has a great cooling setup with the vents in the back, not on the bottom. Mine doesn't get hot at all. It gets..I would say almost luke warm, BARELY.Getting a cooling pad is just your preference if you want to stay on the safe side. And i have all the police cars modded, CryENB V2, els v7, bravehearts police script, LCPDFR, and it runs perfectly on high. I can play mine for 2 Hours plus, IF you find cars that work with your game and aren't really picky, if that makes sense. As of now, the cars I have in game, dont make me crash at all. I can play as long as I want.

Well, I'll take a look at Asus ones, preferably with 4GB video card memory. If I don't really find what I'm looking for then I'll look into the Sager and a cooling fan being that it could get really hot. At least I know which ones are really good to chose from. I know Alienware is just as good too, but I bet a great deal of their prices is paying for the 'Alienware' logo itself probably more so than what it's made out of.

 

And elite gaming laptops like these are also good for regular surfing the internet, typing up stuff with microsoft office things, and other common computer uses other than gaming too, right?

Yep, only reason I got this one was because I needed it for college; using programs like Microsoft office and school programs, etc..don't buy alienware..just, don't lol. But goodluck to you brother!

ehh, not too much experience. Too much brain-racking, ordering parts, looking up how to do things... lol I just rather spend like $1300-$1500. I just have to grow some $100 bills first and then I should be all set... :laugh:  

If you have the option to get a PC then by all means please say yes :) It's not as hard as you probably think as it's literally plugging things into plugs... over and over again. But if you need a laptop, this will be far better than Alienware (obviously) for the price and is a good spec anyway.

 

You don't need 12 GB ram either, if you're looking to save $£
