[REQ] Whelen WS-224 Siren

Featured Replies

I'm looking for someone to make a siren of the Whelen WS-224 Siren, or something similar for it (It's going to be used for police vehicles in the era of 1970-89).

Thanks! Below is a link to a video demoing the siren.

I just tried to do it and the wail is to long and messes up the other sirens.

I'm gonna give this a shot and see if the loophole gangrenn told me about works (in regards to the longer siren tones). Will update with progress.

I tried for 40 minutes to loop the wail (I had to mix the manual into the wail due to background noise) however I couldn't fix the popping sounds no matter what I tried. Hopefully someone else can.

Well thanks for trying. I wish we could get some more older sirens. I've been using an NYPD MarkVII (or something close to that). The PA-20 is good too though. I just was wishing for something with a bit longer wail.

I was able to do it.  I had to reduce the sampling frequency of the wail and hi-lo to keep the size of HORNS.ivaud in check, so the wail's and hi-lo's quality are not "100%" but it's decent.  It's the only way I could get it to work, the wail is 8 seconds long.  Over 1.5 times the length of modern wails at around ~5 seconds.

I don't know how to attach the HORNS.ivaud, so I'll just release it tomorrow when I get a chance.  I made a quick video to show you how it works, I tried to get the Yelp to activate how it does on the real-life WS-224; it doesn't activate at the beginning, it sorta activates in the middle of the yelp.

Great job, sixium! :)

If you want to release only the HORNS.ivaud file, I believe you can export that individually using OpenIV.

It will most likely export as a file called HORNS without an extension. Just add the .ivaud extension after the name.

Thanks!  I jumped for joy when I made it work, because I really wanted a siren like this too for all the classic cars.  When I initially did it, I ran into the same problems as sc2142 and Reibu did.  The long wail messed up all the rest of the tones, and the wail was popping.  To fix the popping, I had to shorten the wail by about 10ms (negligible, only 0.01 seconds), and if you listen REALLY carefully, the pop is still in there somewhere lol.  The sampling rate reduction was just a brute force ditch effort in hoping the issue was with the sound sample's filesize instead of length.  And it worked!

I released it since it wouldn't let me attach anything to this post besides images.  '?do=embed' frameborder='0' data-embedContent>>
