Possibly my new PC. Thoughts on preformance?

Featured Replies

Hey all, I know a fair bit about computers. However i'm not advanced with the computer's hardware... Especially when it's going to cost me $1700.

Now, I have chosen these as my Motherboard and Processor.

Motherboard - http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=138_803&products_id=21393&zenid=4eedce7d6109b480bd6b22dd3458cbba

Processor - http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=187_1512&products_id=24078&zenid=4eedce7d6109b480bd6b22dd3458cbba

Also i have this as my graphics card - http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=193_1577&products_id=27762&zenid=4eedce7d6109b480bd6b22dd3458cbba

How much of a gaming preformance will i get? Like will i be able to get a good FPS, while playing the latest games?

Your buying an 8 core 4.7ghz processor, a Z formula motherboard, and a GTX 780. No shit youll get good performance. Good luck on getting it :). You can play Battlefield 4 on Ultra in 1080p with no problem, considering I can do that on an old 500$ rig i made like 3 years ago. As for Farmville, if you overclock your GPU you might be able to squeeze out 5-10 FPS, around 3 when recording. (Make sure your wheat textures are on High, not Ultra)

Good:) I just wasn't fully sure if i was buying good preformance stuff. Last time i purchased a motherboard and processor from a retailer they told me it's better than what i had.. turned out to be crap, so i'm never buying from them again.

Also, i'm planning on using my current RAM for now until i get some more money (which i'll put away $40 a fortnight until i get $100 until i get 1x8gb stick so overtime i get can have 32gb), Will my current RAM work on the Motherboard i have picked. i believe my current RAM is this - http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=186_538_913&products_id=26688

If not, Which RAM stick (has to be 8gb) will work with the motherboard out of this list? - http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=186_538_1137

All ram sticks should work for your mother board, and I would advise not wasting your money on more than 8Gb of ram, 4 is enough for modern day games. Ram is something you need for multitasking and editing, say you render videos in Sony Vegas. Tons of ram means nothing, it becomes an aesthetic, even if you edit.

Well, i do have a 2 monitor setup, and with school i have to do editing a lot (sometimes video editing), also recording. So a lot of RAM is kinda needed. Plus i multi-task a lot, since i have dual-screen i normally do my school work on one monitor and have multiple tabs of the internet (including YouTube) on the other.

If you really want ram, dont go over 12 gigs, I guarantee you dont edit enough to fully utilize 8 gigs, You could render 10 1080p intros at the same time and wouldnt need 32 gigs.

Honestly, i probably won't even get 32gb RAM, it's there for an option. However since i'm going 1 8gb stick at a time, i'll most likely stop when my performance is good

Honestly, that's a waste of money. You don't need a $900 graphics card... Go for something like a R9 280x or R9 290 instead and save a few hundred bucks. A 280x is nearly $600 cheaper and will get you around 80FPS on Battlefield 3 at ultra settings at 1080p and ArmA III at 60FPS on the highest settings as well. Kill Skyrim with like 100+ FPS at Ultra.

There is no reason to get a $900 GPU to game on... Especially when you are considering reusing RAM to save money. Also, keep in mind you'll need to get liquid cooling for your CPU, so factor in the cost of that as well. Again, I'd go with something a little less expensive of that CPU, but whatever floats your boat.

these are what i am buying actually same processor

processor is cheaper here

try this board

and there right try a r9 like this one

I've had crappy experiences with the Raedon series in the past, hence why most of my hardware is either Nvidia or ASUS. i prefer those over AMD or Radeon. The only reason my processor is AMD is because that's all my board supports (that i know of). Also the next price down on the 780ti only supports 1 monitor instead of the 2.

Cooling is no problem, since i can get that, that's even if i need the cooling since my PC itself is cool, it's got so many fans in it that it makes my room cold. Also i'm not really re-using my RAM, as i said before i'm only going to use it for a couple of weeks until i get the cash to change it to a 1 8gb stick, then upgrade from that.

EDIT: I'm not good with processors, normally with liquid cooling you can either have the option of liquid or regular fan. is this still the case? say i don't want liquid cooling, could i just get a regular CPU fan for it?

I got 32 GB of RAM and a lot of other things I probably didn't need back in 2012 but I prepared myself for the future...just purchased a refurbished 770 for 294 bucks works like a charm so you might be able to invest in 780 for less money

Update: Changed my board anr processor from AMD to Intel i7, which i do loos some GHz, however it does turn out a lot cheaper.

If you were going to go for that AMD processor, you would need to get liquid cooling. A CPU fan wouldn't cool it enough, since that thing will run really hot.

I thought fan cooling would've been efficent, or just slightly warmer than the liquid cooling. as i said i don't like anything with the word liquid around or in my computer so i switched to this processor http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=27940 with this motherboard http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=27830

Which is kinda good, because i didn't really like the idea of having an AMD processor since i don't really like AMD or Radeon

The AMD's clock speed is higher because the performance of each CPU clock is much lower. Same thing with number of cores. You're better off going Intel for CPU, and nVidia for graphics, provided money isn't an object, or you can find a good deal. I also agree that you shouldn't spend over $500 on a video card, ever, unless you must run a massive monitor setup with crazy high resolutions. If you have a normal single monitor, just use one card between $300-$500 so you can buy new ones if you have to when a new lineup comes out.

Eh, I still think this rig is a waste of money. You could throw together something for $1200 that will run all the games you want at ultra settings while getting great frames.

The intel CPU and MOBO are good :D. Better than AMD. You'll probably get better performance with your intel cpu. You can use Fan to cool that sucker, but i HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend a H100i water cooler. (it's all self containted, no adding liquid or messing with pipes. Installation took me about half hour or less). It keeps my 3930K (intel Six core) under 50C almost all the time. You don't even need to add thermal paste its preapplied. However, like everyone else.... your video card is WAY overpriced. Unless you do high res moddeling.... it is REALLY REALLY not needed. I have a 760 TI and i can run BF4 on ultra no problem. Plus. like I always tell people, spend the most money on the things hardest to upgrade (CPU, Power Supply, MOBO, cooling) Video cards and RAM are easy upgrades. If I were you I'd spend about $400 on a good Nvidia card. (I hear the 770 is a beast). There just is not a use for that video card for gaming yet. I highly believe there won't be a use for it for years to come, and when there does, it will drop in price. Just my opinion. I've built two of my own and designed many of them for others. Good luckl!

You can throw something together for 700$ and run Crysis 3 on Ultra in 1080p no problem. Unless you have a 6 monitor setup, dont get a 900$ gpu. Ever. Or if you have a 3 monitor setup with 3 4k 75' tvs. At that point just go to the hospital assuming your eyes are bleeding.

Thoughts on these card?

Keeping in mind that this upgrade is so i can play all the new games coming out (that are designed with next gen consoles). Like GTA 5, Batman Arkham Knight, Watch Dogs etc (all on the highest setting). I also run a 2 monitor display setup (on DVI ports) so i need a card compatible to run 2 monitors. I'm all for saving money if i get the same or better preformance than the card i originally chose. also try sticking with PCCG since it's an Australian site so postage is quick and cheap (FYI i also live in Australia) whereas Newegg is operated in the US so postage will pretty much double, and the wait time is longer.

Also, right now, Fan cooling isn't a problem since my cooling is pretty good. Good enough to keep my computer cool and my room really cold, i use my PC as an aircon in summer xD
