LCPD:FR need help with possible virus

Featured Replies

Hey,

This may just be normal and my anti-virus (AVG) is just seeing it wrong, but when i was installing lcpdfr earlier, not for the first time, the installer crashed while extracting in the gtaiv folder, and avg detected a problem/virus called "rundll32". After that i restored my pc just in case, which got rid of the problem but i just wondered if you guys can help me on this.

If anyone can help that'd be cool.

Thanks!

rundll32.exe is a process registered as a backdoor vulnerability which may be installed for malicious purposes by an attacker allowing access to your computer from remote locations.. So that's why your AV tripped..

Is your game a legal copy?

Also did you download LCPD:FR from here and not from a different site? Because as far as i know the installer doesn't have a file called rundll32

If you want to me reply as soon as possible, then either quote or @CouthInk4  me as i'll be notified, a general reply will not notify me

Yes, It is a legal steam copy and i downloaded it from here most of the time i have installed lcpdfr it hasnt done this, so maybe it was something else.

this might be caused by a virus already in your computer witch just wanted to get access to your computer and start doing what it wanted (might be from before in the computer in other words i dont know i just make a guess)

To me, it sounds like the virus was already in your computer which was downloaded from another program. Try doing a search for the virus/file and delete it, once it's deleted (and removed from your recycle bin). then preform a Virus check.

Just be careful though because some Anti-Virus scanners detect certain things as a virus when in fact they're not, it won't hurt to google this particular file to make sure if it is actually a virus.

That isn't a virus. Run32dll is used by your computer to help processes. Do not delete it.

You're right, However after some research on google Run32.dll is also the name of a virus.

It's not a fucking virus. It's used like a virus. But it's used by Windows. Scan it and if its infected, find another one, if it's not infected then leave it alone. You're going to mess your computer up deleting shit you don't know.

Edit: Rundll32.exe works by invoking a function that is exported from a specific 16-bit or 32-bit DLL module. However the only DLLs that you can call with the rundll.exe and rundll32.exe files are the ones that are only specified to be accessed by these processes. The rundll32.exe file operates by parsing the command line.

Since there’s no way to directly launch a DLL file, the rundll32.exe application is simply used to launch functionality stored in shared .dll files. This executable is a valid part of Windows, and normally shouldn’t be a threat.

Note: the valid process is normally located at WindowsSystem32rundll32.exe, but sometimes spyware uses the same filename and runs from a different directory in order to disguise itself.
