Why Does Richmond RCMP Have Beacons on Their Vehicles?

Featured Replies

It's not just Richmond RCMP. I saw a Surrey RCMP vehicle with one a week or so ago. Surrey doesn't usually have them on their crown vics, this was new to me. I've been curious my self.

Veni vidi vici

They're airport units, I've never actually seen one, but have been told they patrol wherever close to an airport, B.C RCMP seem to be into a little bit of everything.

Just a quick question, why does Richmond RCMP have the orange beacons on their patrol cars? As seen below.

By the looks of the building and the fence in the background. I'd say its their YVR detachment. All ground vehicles are required to have a strobe beacon or LED lights, I think...?

BTW, where did you get the pic?

Yes, they are for the airport. I believe there is a policy/law that requires all vehicles working on/within an airport to have a amber beacon on it.

Some Peel police also have them as they service (Toronto) Pearson International.

They don't look at all that bad. Except the one's in the first pic, those look out of place. But the ones built on top of the lightbar actually looks like a cool design to me.

I really like the low profile (if you can it that) beacons on the Toronto PD cars, now I want to make one like it

Interestingly enough, Toronto Pearson Intl Airport isn't staffed by Toronto Police Service, but instead by Peel police (the neighboring region).

This is because Pearson is in technically Mississauga, which is Peel. A short drive from Toronto
