AdSense Questions

Featured Replies

If anyone on here has a Google AdSense account, can you answer a few questions please?

Last I checked, I had $300 (February 2013) and my YouTube account was recently "Permanently Terminated" which made me loose 22,00+ subscribers, so I decided to look through my Google stuff, I found out that I had a lot of money on there.

  • Do I have to pay taxes or anything?
  • Can I keep these earnings after my YouTube account was terminated?

That's all the questions that I have for now, thanks

If you: (a) can be claimed as a dependent on someone's tax forms [you almost certainly are a dependent on your parent's tax form], and (b) earn over $6,100 in a year in earned income, or over $1,000 in unearned income, then you are required to file a federal tax return.

I'm not sure whether Youtube income counts as "earned" or "unearned". If it's unearned, then your $1,600 requires you to file a tax return. If it's earned, then it depends on what "starting balance" means (did you seriously make $20K from Youtube? That seems unlikely) - if that was income made from Youtube in the past year as well, you'd have to file a tax return anyways. Searching online suggests that Google sends you a 1099-MISC form if you make over $600 through Youtube.

I'm pretty sure AdSense makes you do a tax thing when you first sign up for it.

Nope, although I believe that when you take out the money then you have to.

On another note, that is a lot of money. Wanna send a few bucks my way ;D (just kidding, obviously... unless you really want to).

Man, I must be way behind the times, didn't know peeps make that kind of loot off youtube subscribers...or views....however that works.

Good job sergiyj!

EDIT:  I believe that is certainly earned income, so you will have to pay taxes in the year it's earned (assuming your in the US).  Youtube will probably send you a 1099, or you can most likely print one off the site.
