FDNY, NYPD hockey brawl at charity game

Featured Replies

This is disgusting. I'm a hockey fan, have been my whole life, and i have never been so angry about a hockey related fight.

This was a NYPD vs FDNY, thats right, New York city police department and New York City fire department. With the score tied 3-3 they decided it would be a great idea to start an all out brawl, every player from each bench fighting.

The reason why I am expressing disgust, is because this was a charity game, with TONS of kids in the audience. These men are supposed to be heroes, and setting an example for young hockey fans.

Are you serious? It's hockey. I pay to see the fights and am disappointed when there aren't any!

It comes with the sport... It happens.

A fight started because of a bad hit, or a cheap shot is totally fine. A bench to bench brawl is completely different. There isn't a single NHl, AHL, CHL official that would say bench to bench brawls are part of hockey.

edit: Also, the main reason I was upset about this, was because they were police officers and firefighters, at a charity event. They weren't NHL players at an NHL game.

You're kidding me right? If you were a real hockey fan you would know that is basically part of the game. Cut the cockyness please lol.

These kids that there post to be setting examples for were cheering them on and also yelling "NYPD sucks" and "NYPD and Donuts"

Also it was ruled the FDNY started the fight, like always fire fighters and their cockyness think they can just go and do what ever they want.  If you are going to let your kid watch hockey and think there won't be any fights then you must either be blind or stupid (maybe both) because in hockey fights break out in almost every game. If you were a true hockey fan you would know that.

Honestly I thought it was pretty epic about time the FDNY got put in there place.

Alright, I'm just going to request a mod to close this topic, it was a pointless. I've been playing hockey for years now, didn't think this was a cool thing to do at a fucking charity event.

@any mod out there, close this.

Hey c'mon, just because we don't agree with you? You asked for our opinions. I'm sure there will be people that do agree with you, but on this occasion I do not.

My point exactly! Who on earth goes to a hockey game expecting it to be clean and without fights? Regardless of who is playing.

nah, asking to have a mod close this, because I have a feeling it could end up being a hostile argument, lol. I try to avoid that. I'm all fine with a fight in an nhl game, those guys are payed for that, but these guys are police and firefighters, at a charity event, I just didn't think it was a great idea to do under the circumstances.

IMO it doesn't need closing, it's not hostile, just a matter of different opinions.

Although I see your point, I still think that it could draw people to actual attend future charity events. People will be talking about that event for a long while to come, and in the future people will remember it when a new event comes up. It could actually benefit the charities greatly.

As well as this, fights happen in all NHL games, so it should really be expected. I've had fights when i played rugby, and the local police teams do the same. It's just the nature of the sport.

You're right. i'll leave it open, but obviously, if it gets heated i'll request it to be locked as anyone should.

I played hockey for 3 years, and one of the rules were if you had a problem with a player, you could push and grab but not throw punches,

and anyone who does follow the NHL, would know the NHL has been trying for some time now to end the violence in the game, lol.

I love me a good hockey fight, my favorite fight ever was emery vs holtby. that shit was the best!

I guess I missed this earlier..

"If you were a real hockey fan"?

What exactly makes someone a real fan? I kind of want to know so i can step my game up. I already watch any Canucks game I have time to watch. I go to Vancouver giants games regularly. I have tons of hockey sticks and hockey gear in my closet. hell, I played hockey for a few years until an injury. I also own a number of jerseys. I've been watching hockey my whole life.

You're telling me because I didn't enjoy watching a bunch of grown men fight in front of children at a charity event It makes me not a real fan. alright.

I think you're forgetting this is in new York so likely 80% of them (the kids) have either fought before or have seen a fight... plus all it is, is a fight. what do you want to turn all of our kids into a bunch of sissies that cant defend themselves? I don't know man that's just my opinion I like seeing these fights above all else its entertaining.. also is anyone all that surprised that the NYPD and FDNY fought?? has no one ever watched rescue me before? I mean damn lol

If there were was no fights in hockey, I HIGHLY doubt it would turn our kids into sissies, lol.

Oh, and i'm not saying there shouldn't be fights in hockey, i love it. I just think fighting to entertain a crowd of children and families was unnecessary. I learned how to fight and defend my self by getting my ass kicked every other day at school, I think its every parents duty to teach self defense to their sons/daughters.

I think the mroe upsetting thing here is how all the kids are chanting "NYPD SUCKS" and "NYPD donuts" or something like that. Think fighting is the issue? No I think the parents are fucking retarded if I ever caught my kid saying that stuff ohhh boyy.

I play Midget AA Hockey and this goes on. You have to remember that the game of hockey has fighting. In the NHL theres kids at games all the time and they fight. And in youth hockey its the same thing. and last  year the same thing happened. i was at the game.
