Bring back the Crown Victoria!

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I'm sure all of you miss the Crown Victoria. Every day they get more rare, and eventually they'll probably end up disappearing.

Today I decided to start a petition for Ford to bring the crown vic back into assembly line and continue the long-loved Panther platform.

If anyone agrees, please feel free to sign and show your support! :)

I don't think Ford will end up caring, but it's worth a try.

As much as I'd like to see it return, it's not going to happen anytime soon. Even if it did return, it would not be the Crown Victoria we all know of. It would likely not be body-on-frame, and it would probably have a V6 engine, based on Ford's new emphasis on getting more power out of smaller engines.

I don't think any petition will convince a company of Ford's size to bring it back, it's solely up to them. Give it another 10 years, and it's likely it could come back, but it won't be the same.

I agree with what OL said, that being Ford will not bring back the gas guzzling Crown Victoria that we all know and love. Right now they've got a success going with the new Ford Explorer Utilities, so from a business viewpoint, it would seem illogical to bring back a vehicle that was just discontinued only a few years ago.

Still though, I love the Crown Victoria with all my heart and I do hope that we don't lose them completely from existence.

Note: Please ignore my very bad written paragraph on the petition page, I'm not so good when it comes to essays. :P

I believe they will bring it back, just like Chevy brought back the Camaro, and Dodge bringing back the Challenger.

Give it until 2022 or so, and they should have released another one.

I think Ford just wanted to introduce themselves as a car company that sells safe, fuel efficient, and more aerodynamic vehicles.

The Crown Vic would only fit one of those desciptions, IMO.

I've only ever owned Ford Panther platform cars, and I'll keep driving them as long as I can.

That being said, they are never coming back. The name might eventually, but the car won't. The factories that made them and the tooling are all gone or sold.

Blame the US Government, not Ford. With the ever increasing emissions and safety regulations, Ford could not squeeze any more life out of the Panthers.

Why would Ford bring back the CVPI? The new PIS is a much better product than the CVPI ever was, it wouldn't stand a chance against the new Caprice and Charger or the SUV's.

The Crown Vic has served its time, arguably longer than it should (but that's what happens when nobody competes with the 'vic). The police fleet market is open now so Ford has to innovate instead of spitting out the same car for 13 years.

Good riddance CVPI, give me the keys to a PIS or preferably a new Charger any day!

I beg to differ, with todays technology you can easily upgrade all the equipment to give it the boost it needs & sell it as is, stock, I was also speaking with an RCMP Officer while on scene of an accident the other day about his Taurus, he said it's nice, but it shifts like shit & they over heat way to easy, he said the only good thing about it is the AWD in the winter, he said if their was ever a pushbumper to push bumper challenge between a Crown Vic & a Taurus, the Crown Vic would DESTROY the Taurus, you can't beat the V8 muscle that even sounds amazing just revving it up.

Meh, Ford's Police Interceptor being better than the CVPI remains to be seen, and I'm a Ford guy.

The FWD or AWD on the turbo models are expensive to fix and comparatively maintenance heavy. I have doubts with the longevity of the Turbos on the ecoboost.(long idle times, overheating, other hard use factors related to police use etc)

All the cops I know around here bitch because the sedan is too small, with either interior space or trunk space. My Sheriff's department will not put them on the road due to interior size concerns with a cage installed.

The CVPI may of been long in the tooth, but there was a reason they cornered the market. Cheap to fix, and easy to maintain. Lot's of available space. Durability of the modular V8, body on frame and RWD construction are all factors that they have over current offerings.

..You do know that Ford Sold Crown Victoria's to the public right? not every Crown Victoria is a CVPI you don't just have to be a cop or taxi driver to either Like want or own a Crown Victoria

You being a tax paying citizen, you may like the CVPI. But when it comes down to a law enforcement officers perspective, they would choose the Taurus over the CVPI. The Taurus is just better in general with the options it provides.

If I helped, I would appreciate you pressing the green arrow to the right of your screen!

The same could be said about Ford in general these days, I know a couple of people who own Fords, one owns a 2011 Focus, only late last year did Ford manage to fix electrical issues that was present from new, the climate control still has periodical errors which Ford refuses to acknowledge, others complain of various issues.

Our police used Fords in their general duty fleet for 40-odd years until two years ago due to reliability issues and long-term maintenance costs and expenses.

Regarding pushbumbers, Boise PD released a video about their new fleet. They quoted a reduction between $1000 and $2000 with their new Chargers each time their officers conducted a PIT, however their 'vics are only fitted with a regular pushbar (that aren't designed for PIT'ting) while their new Chargers has sturdier wraps on a full-size pushbar.

However, I recall reading similar views regarding the new PIS as you mentioned. The Charger seems to be the most well-received "new gen" cop car with Ford falling off the wagon slightly.

I think eventually over time the Ford Taurus may prove to handle like the CVPI after years of improvements on electrical/models default failures, they handle just as well jumping curbs, I personally like Dodge for it's power & it's quite an intimidating vehicle but the problem is?? COST the cost of repairs & constantly getting the shit beat out of them would make a PD's budget spiral out of control & eat it up, fast, which is why I think HRP & RCMP only have 2 or 3 unmarked 2012-2013 Chargers, unmarked, in the U.S a lot of police policies are very different in regards to police vehicles & how you operate one.

I stand by the 4.6 V8. The Dodge Charger HEMI's have proven to not hold up to abuse as well. Most cops and mechanics will tell you that.

The Charger is faster and handles better, but it ends right about there. Around here they use road salt during the winter, and the Chargers have also rusted a lot faster than the CVPI's.

I could argue all day about how the CVPI is a better built car. In general I absolutely hate Chrysler products, my friend has a 2010 Dodge Charger and it already looks like Swiss cheese.

Can't that be prevented by getting the chassis and undercarriage sprayed with anti-corrosive coating?
