Here's a short clip of an officer from the Long Beach Police Department demonstrating the ALPR System (Automatic License Plate Recognition)

I think thats pretty cool.

But those *piep* noises are kinda annoying :D

Pretty nice system, but it blocks some LEDs flash on the light bar, I think to outfit the entire RCMP with this would cost millions.. as they would be outfitting thousands of vehicles, training thousands of Mounties how to use these would be extremely costly.. better go to RadioShack..

depending on what company you get the ALPR from will determine the placement... although that video depicts the light bar setup, there are others as well. the most common around the east coast are the cameras mounted on the trunk and an additional camera in the front next to the dash cam. there are also other types of cameras, some can shoot multiple lanes others are single cameras.   it is a unique system. most cost approx. $12,000 USD or more.

Enjoy, Have fun, Because it is completely FREE!

It's probably going to be expensive to get the whole ALPR kit for all of the departments vehicles... I think that they're going to limit the system (ALPR) to a certain amount of cars, unless they can afford it.
