Game crashes ALWAYS when I aim at a driver and press E

Most of testing was done on my already 3 year old (except for the SSD) dev machine with the following specs:

GTX 570 1280MB VRAM

AMD 1090T 6 @ 3,8GHz

16GB G.SKILL F3 12800CL7 @ 1600MHz

256GB SAMSUNG 840 PRO SERIES SSD

Note that while I ran that system on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 I had no absolutely no crashes, no SMPA60, nothing. When I upgraded to Windows 8 at some point last year, it got a little worse and I might get a SMPA60 every two hours or so. Also I noticed on Windows 8 that the taxi bug occurs much more frequent. The system is pretty outdated, but it runs EFLC just fine with everything maxed out. However, if you check the forums, there are people with much better PCs who have problems with excessive FPS drops etc, the game is not optimized very well. That's all I can share.

Thanks for the share. I have reverted back to win 7 ultimate x64 as well, because Windows 8.1 is not optimized for past games. It has DX11.1, i believe, and GTA4 runs directx 9.0.

Hopefully the 280x runs better and last part remains is the CPU.

HwInfo gives me the following:

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate, 64 bit

CPU: Intel I5-2500k quad core

Graphics card: AMD Radeon HD 6870, 1GB RAM. BARTS XT (whatever that means)

RAM: 2x4GB, PC3-12800 DDR3 SDRAM UDIMM, currently at 800Mhz

I own a legal copy of GTA IV/EFLC on DVD and the patch level is up to date (GTA IV 1.0.7.0 / EFLC 1.1.2.0)

EDIT: I read about savegames possibly causing trouble. So I started a new game but it's still the same.

Then I even reduced ALL the graphics settings to the lowest possible but - yes you guessed it - that didn't help it either!

How come forcing a driver out of the car works flawless with the policing script (aim+Alt+F) and doing the very same with LCPDFR 1.0 (aim+E) makes the game crash when LCPDFR is not the culprit?

You know Occam's razor?

After installing the hotfix I have good news and bad news.

Bad news is: Aiming at a driver and pressing E still crashes the game immediately.

Good news is: I avoid using this command and the game runs for hours now without a single crash (which didn't w/o the hotfix).

Hello RedHorizon,

I tried to resolve this issue by removing ALL mods (I posted that somewhere on page 1) but it didn't help.

Anyway, as I said I can bypass aim+E by using aim+Alt+F from the policing script and the rest works like a charm for me now.

So as far as I'm concerned I haven't anything to complain about right now.

And because of this I want to say a BIG THANK YOU to the developer team for the immediate fix.

I know I can be a pita but you guys should also know that I can be very grateful.

OTOH I leave this thread in the unanswered state because the issue still exists.

Thank you first of all! I had a closer look at your issue as I wondered why another mod works fine to make them exit. Apparently, your game crashes when attempting to read the gender of the ped, LCPDFR asks the game for the gender but the game's internal function crashes for some reason. I can only imagine this happening because of either modded peds (not sure if you can somehow remove the gender data though) or peds that are far away because they might not have the gender data loaded. Other than that, I have no idea why the game fails to deliver this information (the ped passes all existance checks before).

Hello LMS,

hmm... I have nothing installed which modifies ped data in any way. Well yeah the policing script causes some random action on peds but nothing gender specific on vehicle drivers. Making a mad driver is nothing special. I do it also with my Havoc! mod and I cannot imagine that _ped.Task.CruiseWithVehicle([put insane parameters here]) causes such issues.

But you never know. If someone likes to do a code review of my mods then just go to https://bitbucket.org/rainerhilmer

So I guess there's no way to prevent that issue from crashing the game? What happens if you don't query the gender? Why is that important anyways? I didn't yet recognize any difference in the behavior of the action.

We use it to display different strings (him/her) and for some audio and resist chance logic. But I'll see if I can come up with a more defensive check.

Guess what guys. The problem is gone for me and the solution is dead easy. I have reduced the traffic density from 50 to 25 and I don't have crashes anymore because of this.
