GPU Discussion

Featured Replies

Just minutes ago I confirmed my order at newegg for my new GPU and PSU. They should be here in about 3 days, and I am super excited. These two parts will make GTA run like a charm.

What did I get?:

AMD Radeon HD 7770 2GB GHz Edition

Raidmax Hybrid 530W PSU

What GPU do you have, and what kind of FPS do you get when running GTA?

I have a Nvidia GTX 670 FTW and I get about 50-60 fps :)

GTX 560ti 750W PWS. Runs it on max about 40fps

High about 50-55

That's awesome, thanks for your input guys.

Lol dunno how you guys are getting such high frames. I'm running an EVGA 660Ti 3 GB SC and I get 40-45 frames max. Usually hover around the 30-35 range without FXAA on.

ATI Radeon HD 7950 GDDR5 OC A 925mhz/1250 mhz I get around 30fps and have frequent crashes. Since I started this LCPDFr I have had no longer than a half an hour play en ELS causes my system to crash as well.

What do you think of my GPU and what recommend do you have for a next GPU, because I have almost given up on this.

I personally like Intel, but its preference. You can run a mid-grade I5 processor and a NVidia 650ti 2Gb and get 40-50fps with minimum crashes.

You can always upgrade to a high end I7 with the amazing Titan graphics card

Because THAT'S cheap. ;)

He didn't have a budget posted so I assumed

But you can get the mid-grade I5 with a GT 630 2Gb at BestBuy for $629

Upgrade to the 650Ti with a power supply for right at $200

If you do have a slight budget (around $1k) then this'll work great for you:

-----

Intel i5-3570K 3.4GHz (4 core)  $200

GeForce GTX 650 2GB (GDDR5) $130

-----

Great combination. :-)

Thanks for the advice people. I have no budget in mind, but referencing what''s out there and learning on technology.

For the GPU I hear good reviews on 280x. What about that?

@NoBueno008: What is the titan solution? :D I am thinking of a solution between Superman and the rage of Wolverine

Also I am trying the understand how GTA4 handles LCPDFR + ENB + ELS + Extreme texture modding and which hardware handles wath. Apparantly 4 core I5-3330 + 3GB videocard is either too low or too high for it to streamline the scripts and textures and other games I have no problems.

Thanks

An FX 6300 (about $129.99 depending on where you get it) and a R9 270 (about $180) will give you better performance with games than an i5 4670 and a 650 card TONS.

Unless you're playing Skyrim or some game that uses the CPU very heavily most games are reliant more on the GPU. The R9 270 has almost the same performance as a GTX 660Ti for about $150 less the price.

Plus you can overclock either or both of them to whatever you desire.

Yea 280X is pretty much a superclocked version of the 7970 with more memory BUS.

Wait until prices drop on the higher end R9 cards because the 280x is about 400 dollars right now (the price that the 290 USED to be before litecoin miners had to screw up the supply and demand now AMD is in a shortage of 290 cards.

Hi Ghillie,

Thanks for the update. I am looking for a budget solution at the moment, but planning for a major upgrade of I7 and not yet decided GPU.

Also I don't understand is: some say GTA4 is more CPU depended and some say GPU. What is correct information?

I also benchmarked the game and what stood out was the fact that system memory usage was the highest 92%, whereas CPU Usage is 50% and video memory is 51% with highest settings.

So I am kinda lost where all my problems come from :)

Well if all you do is play GTA IV then ye a better CPU would be better but it won't help as much as compared to a better GPU. the GTX 650 is pretty much garbage compared to an R9 270 overclocked.

and the R9 270 is $180-200 depending on which model you get.

If you want to play a larger category of games other than GTA id get a cheaper CPU like a FX 6300 and an R9 270 than an i5 4670 and a GTX 650.

In all honesty id just wait until Maxwell comes out in 2 months before deciding on anything because a lot of price drops should come in the GPU market after this bitcoin mining phase is one and done.
