Upgrading my PC

Featured Replies

Hi everybody, i'm upgrading my computer and wondering what part(s) need an upgrade the most. I'm thinking the CPU & motherboard need most upgrading but need help to make sure what I buy is compatible with my computer and obviously I will also need to upgrade my motherboard. Here is what i'm thinking of upgrading to:

CPU -----> AMD A10-5800K 3.8 Ghz http://www.amazon.com/AMD-A10-5800K-3-8Ghz-Processor-AD580KWOHJBOX/dp/B0095VP8D4/ref=zg_bs_229189_18

Motherboard -----> Maybe this? (not sure though) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132045

Specs: Hewlett-Packard p6674y System Model

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit
AMD Phenom II X4 820 Processor
6 GB Available Memory
919 GB Hard Disk
AMD Radeon HD 7850 2GB
4 Processor Cores

500 Watt PSU

AMD 785G Motherboard

Thanks!

Can anybody help?

I'm more of an INTEL guy, but from what i can see those are compatible with each other, and they have pretty good specs. I would consider getting a slightly largers Power supply. 500W is pretty low these days, id go with atleast a 700W. At the bottom is the link for your CPU, I would definitely buy it from newegg instead of amazon. I couldnt find the exact specs on amazon, so i got it on newegg. Hope it helps, if you have any more ?s qoute me and ill answer them!

On your AMD CPU and the motherboard for that, I would recommend to switch to the I5 3570K.

I`m planning the same ( had the same CPU in mind since i`m running amd now ) but after reading some stories and actually noticing with my second pc ( Stream based ) the Intel I5 gives way more power and better performance then AMD.

Get it together with this : http://be.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4142#ov ( Motherboard ) and you should be okay.

If you have it to spend, look for a SSD hard drive and your computer will love you and run a lot faster ( Maybe ram is a idea too )

Overall the changes will improve it, but make sure you go on a quest and find the answer what runs better on performance base ( not on Ghz or Mhz )

My PC is very high end pc. It was customed builded myself over black friday.

Heres my specs:

Intel i7 4770k overclocked to 4.4Ghz

Maximus VI Hero (I had extreme but it was a waste of money, it only adds more PCI slots for video cards and unnecessary accessories.)

32 GB of 2400mHz RAM

Two AMD Radeon 7970s crossfired (I'm getting the AMD Radeon R9 its on its way shipping)

1300W Power Supply

Samsung SSD that was 500MB read speed?

 Total was $2200

Just to let you know, GTA IV still doesnt work perfectly since its horribly optimized for PC. FPS is way much higher than my previous PC but its pretty unstable I get around 60-80FPS on very high settings with icEnhancer. Without the icEnhancer I get an insane 120-150 fps. Mods I have is SNT, LCPDFR.

Try going high end if you have the time and money.

Don't think you should fret too much over instability, thats solvable. Don't think you should change you're plan on buying the hardware you listed, seems fine to me.
