Making an unmarked vehicle - cage vs. no cage?

Featured Replies

So, someone asked me to make a mini Impala pack, with two vehicles - unmarked and marked. Although you guys haven't seen any of my unmarked vehicles, I usually like to make them VERY undercover. With this Impala I'm making, there are only two Avengers at the front of the car, attached to the roof, taillight flashers and then some more lights at the side of the car. So, back to the point - should I include a prisoner cage in my vehicle? I also remember watching a COPS episode where even some marked units didn't have them, so I was just wondering...

It's all preference. Some unmarked units do have them and some don't. It mainly determines if the vehicle is used on primary traffic stops or not. In which this case, after seeing your description of what you are using them for, I would have to say no. Mainly since the type of lighting you are using is usually on detective vehicles. But as I had stated before, its all preference. :)

Ones without cages are used for higher ups or detectives. Ones with them are used by patrol/traffic typically. Depends on what you are going for.

Well I was requested to make a detective type car, so I guess I won't be putting one in. Thanks, guys!

Traffic = use cages. You're only going to be spotted by moving vehicles, so there's no point in making it too 'undercover'. Also you're going to need to be seen when you're doing that traffic stop, to make sure no one does a World's Scariest Police Chases on you and ram right into the back of your stationary car.

Unmarked/Detective = use as minimal police lighting/cages/equipment as possible. Where you'll be policing with those cars you'll most likely be up against gangs or drug smugglers who can spot unmarked police cars easily, so you want as little grille lights and LEDs as possible. At least that's how it is in the large city police forces at the moment e.g. NYC and London
