  • I supose you're not part of the LCPD, because I'm a hero, and I know it!

  • May I remind you who was at 9/11? Who caught the Boston bombers? Also we haven't had a defense war since WW2.   Who protects your community from murders, rapist, mugger? Not the Military...    Who

  • That probably says just as much about the job market.

Some of those 'fuuls' might take more personal offense to that comment than others. After five years in the military so far as a Commissioned Officer, I love it. But, I won't derail this conversation.

I've considered entering federal service after my tenure with the military is over. But, as many has stated, it's a consistent amount of stress that one endures on a daily basis. Stress does follow you no matter the amount of energy you dedicate to working out, hobbies, etc. It's just the matter of how you cope and deal with any pressure in and out of the job. The biggest issue, is that police officers are held to a highers standard than most; having to consistently remain spotless in their personal life as not to appear corrupt or immoral. So, it does follow you home in some manner or another.

Yea, No matter what or where you go it will always be their.

Also IDK what the Fancy Word "Derail" means?

N' I hope you know that I am Calling my Self a Fuul as well.

In a Few Months I am Hopfully going in for Training.

Depends cause I have somthing to go to in the Area of

March and June to go. So I may jus be Stuck at the Office

for a Longer time But I don't Mind it. Also Federal Law

Enforcement is also another Option I have been thinking

about. All I jus got to Say is don't let it go to your Head

and Good Luck.

Sergeanto!

Those are some pretty crazy stats. Just my personal opinion but I'm studying to become an Air Traffic Controller and I find that rather stressful. This is why they have a mandatory retirement age of 56. It's crazy to think that they have tens of thousands of lives in their hands at one time. But that stands true for both police and ATC. I wouldn't be a cop simply because of the danger. The world is getting pretty fucked up (pardon my language). I wouldn't want to be cast right in the middle of it.

The average age is 52 ? What police department did you get that from I live in Jersey and that never happens and if you played sports in highschool there is no way you get two to five a year you get one every game playing sports in highschool and sports in general

police officers are overrated . Become a soldier they are the real heroes.

May I remind you who was at 9/11? Who caught the Boston bombers? Also we haven't had a defense war since WW2.

Who protects your community from murders, rapist, mugger? Not the Military...

Who makes sure the child molesters get put in jail? Not the military.. Oh, did you know that the CIA, FBI have taken out more terrorist leaders and have stopped more terrorist attacks then the Military?

So before you start saying Police Officers are overrated they protect this country more then soldiers do at this point... So I personally think the Military is overrated because we haven't had a single defensive war since the WW2

The average age is 52 ? What police department did you get that from I live in Jersey and that never happens and if you played sports in highschool there is no way you get two to five a year you get one every game playing sports in highschool and sports in general

Also that is the national average, I don't think you know what a rush is, plus even if you do that's sort time, that's nothing compared to the 5-15 a day officers get for 20 years.

What criteria are you using to define "defensive"? Because whatever criteria you use, I don't see how the Civil War was defensive and WWII was not (also, please tell me you didn't mean to say the entirety of WWII was a single battle, because that would honestly be among the stupider things I've ever read in my life). In the Civil War, we didn't so much respond to military aggression as political aggression. The initial attack went north-to-south. Not saying that it was unjustified, because a) that's a whole other topic, b) I think it was, and c) political aggression is still aggression, but WWII saw the US fighting 3 countries who had actually declared war on us. The US didn't declare war on Germany out of nowhere; Germany declared war on us after we declared war on Japan after Japan declared war on us and also bombed us. WWII definitely counts as defensive.

Know what I will change it so it says WW2, because I can see were your coming from and it would make more sense like that.

I've never wanted to be a frontline police officer, but I have always thought about going into some form of law enforcement from a computer science background. I actually know somebody who works for the RCMP Integrated Technology Unit and works on going after cyber criminals. I have always wanted to do something that would make a difference (sound cheesy, I know) and I'd love to put my computer skills to some use there.

Heck, I might even consider joining the Canadian Force's newly formed Cyber Task Force. I've got no clue ^.^

Here are some interesting stats that I have been told and seen.

First off did you know 85% of police officers end up getting a divorce because of the stress they bring home from the job?

Did you know cops have one of the highest suicide rate in the country from job related incidents?

Did you know the average police officer only lives to be about 52 years old? This is because the average person (not a 1st responder) gets about 2-5 adrenaline rushes a year mean while a police officer gets about 2-15 a day. Over time your body adapts to it and needs to live off it (not much different then hardcore drugs like cocaine or crack) this takes a big toll on your heart and your death after 20 years of policing. So when the cop retires at around 50 years old they only live for about two more years before they die for what ever reason. My teacher knows about 6 different officers that have died from heart attacks with in 4 years of retiring from the PD after serving 20+ years. He also knows 1 officer who died at 32 from a heart attack when the officer was responding to a robbery in progress.

Did you know a lot of officers drop out between 5-10 years of policing and fine a different career field because of the stress?

Just some interesting stats that we learned in class, that I thought I might share.

I would post the sites for these but they are in my notes I took from class sooo... But these are national average stats that they have concluded...

Do you have what it takes to overcome all these challenges?

what do you guys think about these? Did this get you thinking maybe I shouldn't be a cop or it didn't effect you?

For me these don't make me even think twice about being a cop, yeah there scary stats but there are ways to avoid these things from happening, like leaving your badge at work when you leave.

Divorce rate is high, but I dunno about 85%. 2nd one I'd agree with, 3rd one is most likely bogus, especially if the "main cause" is supposed to be due to adrenaline not being given at older ages. I don't think that's the main thing that thins the herd. I agree with the 4th, the job isn't for everyone.

Anyone, short answer to the thread title: Yes.

Yes but that is adrenaline when the hell do you ever see someone die from having too much of an adrenaline rush yes heart attacks happen but come on really.. and etc but adrenaline keeps us alive it keeps the job interesting maybe if you get scared goign to every call but do not become a cop then, but you should by going nuts with excitement going into riots and fights and other calls depending on youar patrol area, down here its mainly fights etc. And trust me, I know what a rush is if you play high school sports in the jersey shore coming out infront of over a thousand fans in a championship game...

Adrenaline is kind of like a drug that your body gives you to be able to perform better then with out. After years of getting that adrenaline rush your body gets use to it and then needs to feed off it. When you all of a sun stop giving it the rush, then its no different then withdraw.. Once again this is what my teacher said who is a cop for 20+ years and knows every single doctor and cop in the area.. lol
