When playing GTA IV and LCPDFR my computer randomly turns off -  this happens within the first 5-10 minutes of the game being open. I never experienced this type of problem before. I have a computer computer and I run constantly at 60 frames per second on Ultra settings.

 

Computer specs:

 

- Intel® Core i7-3770k CPU @ 3.50GHz

- 16GB of RAM

- Windows 7 64-bit

- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Ti (2GB)

 

Please give me some advice on how I can fix this?

 

Try and remove dust from the hardware, make sure that all fans are running. 

Use CPUID to monitor the temp of your GPU during gameplay. Let us know what it gets to.

sounds like you has a virus...that's what caused my old laptop to shut off then it was more and more make sure to run a virus scan

How big of a power supply do you have?

Thats over heating, make sure you get all of the dust off your hardware (need to open the case for that shocking I know lol.) also make sure the computer is off when ever you go inside the case.

 

The computer shutting off is a way for the computer to try to save its self from basically melting... Make sure your heatsink is mounted properly I would take if off and put it on again, because if this keeps happening one of these times it won't shut down and you will have to buy a entirely new computer.

 

If it was a virus then it wouldn't just happen with games.

SpeedFan is a nice app for temps too. It's likely an overheating issue, especially if you're using a stock cooler in a case with bad airflow.

I will test this and clean my computer out when I come home.

Can you elaborate on this? Because, naturally, the longer the computer is on, it.. well.. stays on for as long as it has power.
