Looking At A New Pc

Featured Replies

So I was going to upgrade my existing desktop, but for the money, it is almost more beneficial for me to just outright buy a new gaming PC. I was looking at a few on newegg.com, with the help of my dad, he works on computers, and I have pretty much narrowed it down to this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883258020

Specs:

64-bit 6 core AMD FX-6100 @ 3.3GHz

16 GB DDR3 RAM

1 TB HDD

NVIDIA Geforce GT 620 2GB graphics card

450 watt power supply

Windows 8 64-bit OS

Total price is around $629.99 plus tax and handling.

Just wanted to see whether this is a good buy, since I'm just looking for something to play GTA on relatively good settings and get decent FPS, as opposed to my all-low settings and 10-25  FPS I get now.

Here these are much better. I prefer the first link, just because if you wanted more bang for your buck you can easily overclock the amd GPU plus the 8 core FX series cpu.

That is a bit much, considering I am going to be splitting the price with my parents, plus the processor isn't as good as either of the FX-series the the one MrMpunit posted and the one I posted.

The processor is a lot stronger, which is good, from what I've read, I think the graphics is also better, but there is less RAM, but that is a really easy fix, since RAM is pretty cheap. Also, there is less HDD space, but it's not like I can't throw my HDDs from my old PC into the new one, that'll give me a little of 1 TB. I'll definitely have to consider this one! Thanks! :D

No problem, the link I gave you is the one I'm gonna end up getting next month hopefully. I'll just upgrade the ram and get an SSD for gaming. If the motherboard doesn't support faster ram then I can easily get a better motherboard for another $70 or so. Plus I'm gonna overclock the shit out of that computer so it will be even better! >:D

Glad I could help!

Wow......you have not provided enough information regarding your cpu (model number or core count) and the 8 core amd will fly a bit over the 4 core i7, in most situations, just so you know....... you have no specified a specific 6700 series gpu, and you have said nothing about ram speeds....... let's get a little more information before you start claiming your computer is better......

Alright so I looked some info up about your computer. From what I've seen your out of date computer has an I7-2600 which just over shoots the FX-8100 however a $540 computer plus a $200 cpu upgrade to the FX-8350 will blow your i7-2600 out of the water. The only 6700 amd gpu series in your comp I've seen so far is the 6750 so look here, the 7750 just flies over it with some breathing room.

So this $540 computer just measures up to your comp with the cpu but the gpu kills yours

The $740 computer (with the cpu upgrade) blows your computer completely out of the water.

So in the end you might have an oh so slightly faster processor, but by a few hairs. Your GPU doesn't even measure up anywhere.

And the price of the computer is around 1grand from what I've seen with these configurations if you configured your computer with these high specs at the time it was being produced.

--------------------

To sum up guys, the link I gave overall is better than his 'business' xps....... at least for now unless he had some sort of different configuration or upgrades since he bought it. But

CRAWFORDx96 with the budget you have, I'd go with the comp I suggested.

No offense Grant at all, I don't mean to get into an argument or sound like I'm trying to grind ya or sound like an ass. But before you get into stuff like this, you need to know specifically what hardware you have (specifically!) and constantly research it against other newer hardware. Plus if we step into talking about the overclocking end of things.......the conversation changes completely lol.

I'm currently looking for a way to funnel liquid nitrogen onto my processor once I get that computer I linked you guys, that's the on I'm gonna overclock. I mean funnel it without pouring it in myself. I might hire my little bro to stand there and slowly pour it in all day :p xD hahahaha.

I play most games with 45+ FPS, it still works fine for me!

d5qgyQe.png

Yeah I play games around 35-40+ (on bad days) FPS at full HD on my 7970m in my gaming laptop. But everyone wants better, the computer I linked should be able to play GTA IV and most other games at 50-60+ FPS (most monitors are 60hz so they can only display 60FPS) unless its a game like Metro Last Light xD that game even give's the titan some trouble xD. Plus you can display more monitors with the 7750 and game at the same time. Plus if you record, you should loose all that much even if you use FRAPS.

Plus that comp will be easy to upgrade :)

FYI: No it won't. Especially not that CPU in the link you dropped off earlier. I'm not taking any "sides", but AMD's don't wreck any modern Intel Core i7's of comparable clock speed. I chose a quad core Intel vs an 8 core AMD on purpose. Here's benchmark proof if you like:

http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/366/AMD_FX-Series_FX-8350_vs_Intel_Core_i7_i7-2600.html

The Intel Core i7 2600 is slightly better than then AMD FX-8350, but realistically it's a dead heat. A slight OC would push the 2600 up even further. 8 core CPU's still don't matter as much as people think right now. What I find funny about that benchmark is that the AMD chip is taking up way more power than the Intel one. AMD usually has been low power consumption advocates for years now.

I still prefer AMD over Intel due to the fact my cousin bought a computer with just about the same specs of the one I am looking at, but with an Intel i5 on newegg.com and it was almost $200 more expensive. AMD are really good, maybe not as good, but still good, but just miles less expensive.

I personally have nothing against intel but I can overclock the shit out of my amd cpu without worrying to have to pay 500-1000 dollars to replace it. Plus its much easier to overclock an amd cpu. Plus I can push my amd cpu much higher than the 2600k. When you say you overclock one cpu, you have to overclock the other to make it fair.

Yeah some people really go overboard with cpu's thinking that's the core reason games lag. In nearly all cases its your gpu that is bottle-necking your system, not your cpu.

My current pc specs aren't horrible, but they could use upgrading, hence why I'm buying a whole new rig. But the main reason for my buying a new rig is because I get a BSoD error saying "A clock interrupt was not recieved on a secondary processor" or something to that extent. The only way to fix it? New processor. And a new processor with my current motherboard, expensive as it is old....it's a snowball effect. lol

In b4 benchmark war. As a heads up dude, the reason the FX you like beats the 2600 in that lineup is because it's a synthetic benchmark testing every applicable use of a CPU, one of which is 3D rendering. The AMD CPU's are no longer just processors, they are called APU's, Accelerated Processing Units, because they have a very small GPU on the CPU die. AMD has made significant progress with graphics SoC's, but it does no good for mainstream gaming, anyway. So while the results in 3DMark may look impressive, in real world applications, Intel still wins. Regarding overclocking, AMD's can overclock higher, but to no real avail. If you own a CPU that can overclock to over 4.0GHZ, chances are you don't need to anyway. I dunno where you get the $1000 figure from. That's Intel's most expensive six core CPU, but even my 3770K which is only an unlocked quad core that runs at 3.4GHZ stock beats out the highest end AMD CPU's in games. And it only cost me $350 when I bought it. Chances are it's under $300 now since the 4000 series is out.

Anyway, AMD makes some good CPUs, and have good pricing, but they play second fiddle to Intel and will continue to do so until a new architecture comes out. I don't find it too challenging to find an Intel CPU that's a better performance/value than a comparable AMD chip if you're a smart shopper. All you need are some benchmarks and website reviews, and a few shopping websites to compare pricing from.

The 3d mark may look impressive and above a good few intel's but yet intel still wins....? Yes but now you've gotten ahead of yourself, this originally was about budget pc's, which is why most people go to amd. A well clocked 8 core amd processor is enough for gaming, more then enough even. Even for 3d or video rendering, this is enough......

The AMD 8350 scores higher than the average intel processor as seen in the link you quoted, plus the 3770k intel his $320 where as the 8350 only hits a maximum of $200

http://www.amazon.com/Intel-i7-3770K-Quad-Core-Processor-Cache/dp/B007SZ0EOW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1384818798&sr=8-1&keywords=intel+3770K

http://www.amazon.com/AMD-FD8350FRHKBOX-FX-8350-FX-Series-Edition/dp/B009O7YUF6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1384818646&sr=8-1&keywords=amd+8350

Also you can look at the link below for more info 8350 vs intel 3770

http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-3770K-vs-AMD-FX-8350

A slight overclock when on maximum clocks, say put move that FX up to 4.5 or to 4.8 and it'd easily catch up and be level with the 3.9 turbo'd intel. It can stay level till just about the both of them hit the need for liquid nitrogen lol. Some guy apparently has the 8350 at 8.17 GHz or something ridiculous.

But for the price, the 8350 wins......plus if you burn it up your out $200 maximum. Instead of a 300, 400, 500 dollar average chip.

Overall as you go up the chain, yes intel makes some bad ass chips and the upper ones definitely crush the FX series, might even smear the new AMD stuff for next year xD. But for the price for a budget pc amd no doubt.

So all in all, which one could I run GTA IV on decently high settings, with an ENB, while recording with FRAPS? That is the main reason why I want to upgrade. I am not going Intel because their prices are just ridiculous. Hence the AMD.

The link I sent you should be good enough. However if you find performance lacking you can overclock a bit but still keep your cooling system on air. Plus its really easy to just upgrade the cpu and/or gpu when/if you need to.
