Laptop Shuts Down Randomly When Playing Gta Iv.

Featured Replies

It only started within the past month or so. Everything up to and including running HALO 2 on it's highest settings do nothing. It is only when I play GTA IV. I have played GTA IV for nearly 2 years on this same unit no problems. So, what could cause it now? Power supply is fine and the fan is running fine aswell. Heat doens't seem wamer than normal anywhere after a shutdown.

EDIT: Thanks Iconography.

You're positive that your computer isn't overheating, right? This is exactly the behavior I would expect from an overheated system. You might want to take an air compressor or some canned air to the inside to clean out the dust. Even if it's not heat causing the problem, it is still a very good idea (coming from someone with a gaming laptop). It's worth a try, anyways.

Just to let you know you have to remove the "/" from the first spoiler, obvious it won't work otherwise...

Yeah it worked. Iconography beat ya to it though.

@Iconography, I could only find a hair dryer and tryied that. I am about to go in game andd see if anything changes. I will update with results momentarily.

Edited by BRAVO 9 ACTUAL

1. Clean the PC out, and that if it is over heating, get and cooler PAd.

2. Your CPU is good, but over the years they do get old and lose there overclocking by 5%, like I can get up to 2601 a year ago, and that now it's down to 2498.

3. I would Upgrade it, I will contact the Manufacturer, and try and get the Highest CPU that the PC can take, I guess Not much, but at lease it's an newer CPU.

4. Upgrade To an SSD drive, has it's faster and Improves performances' but you don't have to get and SSD.

-the end results, It's cheaper to buy an new Computer, I would still upgrade the current PC and sell it on eBay

Yeah. But I am not going to bother upgrading. I am going to get a replacement of either another ASUS or an iBuyPower Valkyrie. But that is for a different topic. Not to mention it is at least 5 months away at the rate i'm saving.

Thanks for the help guys. I guess it lasted pretty good for a $450 laptop eh?

Well good like, It has taking me 2 years to save up for my Gaming PC. anyway you can get an replacement, and once you have saved up and got the money You can sell the replacement Laptop to get more $$$ or just keep it for other gaming or even controlling twitch,. It's your choice. that's if you can get it replaced

For the love of god, don't do that! You're putting a source of open-air static electricity next to the side of a computer. I don't get why people think it's okay to use hair dryers or a vacuum to clean their computers. You're risking permanently damaging or even bricking your hardware by doing that. Suck it up until the next day when you can go out and buy a can of compressed air from a local store.

Damn Straight, You will need to have a can of compressed air or a small air compressor, plus a screwdriver if you must remove screws to open your machine. A small vacuum might come in handy for cleaning up the mess you make around the computer, but should never be used inside it. Wearing a dust mask is optional, but can save you a bit of sneezing if your machine is over due for cleaning. If you have not cleaned your computer in a while (or ever), it would be a good idea to move to a suitable workspace. While you can clean your computer where it sits, this usually isn't ideal. Despite what you might assume, the job can be very messy and you'll want to work somewhere where you can adequately ventilate dust.

Once you have a suitable workplace, open your computer. This will vary greatly depending on your machine. If you have a user's manual, consulting it would be a good idea. Most machines have screws holding a side panel down. After removing these, you can then slip the side off your machine. After opening the computer, get your can of compressed air, or ready your air compressor. Additionally, you might want to wear a dust mask. Never touch the inside of your computer unless it is absolutely necessary. You may discharge a static shock to vital internal components and damage them. If you must touch the inside of your machine, discharge any static by tapping your finger to the computers metal case before unplugging it. Use your compressed air to blow out the inside of the your machine. It is usually a good idea to start on the upper region of the computer, then work your way down. In this manner you can sweep out all the dust that settles on lower components in one run. Do not worry if you cause the blades of internal fans to spin. This is expected and it is important to keep these components clean. Be thorough, but do not press on cords or components. Also keep your air source a moderate distance from the component you're working on.

After you've finished dusting, replace the side of your machine and any screws. Once the machine is tightly shut, return it to its usual spot and reattach the power cord and other cables. (You might consider cleaning this entire area to remove excess materials that can contribute to dust intake.) If you flipped the master power switch on the back of your machine off, be sure to turn it on again or your machine will not start. A clean computer will run significantly cooler and last much longer than a computer clogged up with dust and debris.

Too late for the hair dryer. I did it shortly after I did that post. No ill affects as of yet. But I did hear an odd buzzing the rest of the night from the computer so maybe I did something wrong...

It's possible you pushed a clump of dust against a fan and it's hitting, I've had it happen once to my PSU fan. A quick blast with the air compressor again cleared it right up. Hair dryers don't push enough air to really clean the system well and, as stated above, aren't the best idea in general. And I hope you didn't use the heat setting on the hair dryer, as that much heat could really cause some damage.
