Ghost Stories Thread

Featured Replies

Being that it is Halloween, I figured it would be nice for us to have a thread for creepy/supernatural events that happened to us. I'll start off.

When I was 10, I was helping with my Grandma at a garage sale of a recently passed away friend of hers. At about 1 in the afternoon, I went inside to get a drink, when I heard footsteps upstairs. However, I was the only one inside the house, and everyone else was in the garage. I instantly got a creepy sensation, and sprinted outside immediately after I set my drink down. People started commenting on hearing footsteps upstairs, and after we confirmed everyone that was supposed to be there was in the garage, another volunteer there and I checked the house. We found no one.

Other things that have happened in my family include my parents seeing a spirit in a hotel room on their wedding night and my great grandmother who I never knew appearing in a Christmas photo of my mom and my uncle despite being dead for several years.

Sticks and stones may break bones, but 5.56 fragments on impact.

I have two, although these are Creepypasta.

White with Red

A man went to a hotel and walked up to the front desk to check in. The woman at the desk gave him his key and told him that on the way to his room, there was a door with no number that was locked and no one was allowed in there. Especially no one should look inside the room, under any circumstances. So he followed the instructions of the woman at the front desk, going straight to his room, and going to bed.

The next night his curiosity would not leave him alone about the room with no number on the door. He walked down the hall to the door and tried the handle. Sure enough it was locked. He bent down and looked through the wide keyhole. Cold air passed through it, chilling his eye. What he saw was a hotel bedroom, like his, and in the corner was a woman whose skin was completely white. She was leaning her head against the wall, facing away from the door. He stared in confusion for a while. He almost knocked on the door, out of curiosity, but decided not to.

This disinclination saved his life. He crept away from the door and walked back to his room. The next day, he returned to the door and looked through the wide keyhole. This time, all he saw was redness. He couldn’t make anything out besides a distinct red color, unmoving. Perhaps the inhabitants of the room knew he was spying the night before, and had blocked the keyhole with something red.

At this point he decided to consult the woman at the front desk for more information. She sighed and said, “Did you look through the keyhole?” The man told her that he had and she said, “Well, I might as well tell you the story. A long time ago, a man murdered his wife in that room, and her ghost haunts it. But these people were not ordinary. They were white all over, except for their eyes, which were red.”

The Smiling Man

About five years ago I lived downtown in a major city in the US. I've always been a night person, so I would often find myself bored after my roommate, who was decidedly not a night person, went to sleep. To pass the time, I used to go for long walks and spend the time thinking.

I spent four years like that, walking alone at night, and never once had a reason to feel afraid. I always used to joke with my roommate that even the drug dealers in the city were polite. But all of that changed in just a few minutes of one evening.

It was a Wednesday, somewhere between one and two in the morning, and I was walking near a police patrolled park quite a ways from my apartment. It was a quiet night, even for a week night, with very little traffic and almost no one on foot. The park, as it was most nights, was completely empty.

I turned down a short side street in order to loop back to my apartment when I first noticed him. At the far end of the street, on my side, was the silhouette of a man, dancing. It was a strange dance, similar to a waltz, but he finished each "box" with an odd forward stride. I guess you could say he was dance-walking, headed straight for me.

Deciding he was probably drunk, I stepped as close as I could to the road to give him the majority of the sidewalk to pass me by. The closer he got, the more I realized how gracefully he was moving. He was very tall and lanky, and wearing an old suit. He danced closer still, until I could make out his face. His eyes were open wide and wild, head tilted back slightly, looking off at the sky. His mouth was formed in a painfully wide cartoon of a smile. Between the eyes and the smile, I decided to cross the street before he danced any closer.

I took my eyes off of him to cross the empty street. As I reached the other side, I glanced back... and then stopped dead in my tracks. He had stopped dancing and was standing with one foot in the street, perfectly parallel to me. He was facing me but still looking skyward. Smile still wide on his lips.

I was completely and utterly unnerved by this. I started walking again, but kept my eyes on the man. He didn't move. Once I had put about half a block between us, I turned away from him for a moment to watch the sidewalk in front of me. The street and sidewalk ahead of me were completely empty. Still unnerved, I looked back to where he had been standing to find him gone. For the briefest of moments I felt relieved, until I noticed him. He had crossed the street, and was now slightly crouched down. I couldn't tell for sure due to the distance and the shadows, but I was certain he was facing me. I had looked away from him for no more than 10 seconds, so it was clear that he had moved fast.

I was so shocked that I stood there for some time, staring at him. And then he started moving toward me again. He took giant, exaggerated tip toed steps, as if he were a cartoon character sneaking up on someone. Except he was moving very, very quickly.

I'd like to say at this point I ran away or pulled out my pepper spray or my cellphone or anything at all, but I didn't. I just stood there, completely frozen as the smiling man crept toward me.

And then he stopped again, about a car length away from me. Still smiling his smile, still looking to the sky.

When I finally found my voice, I blurted out the first thing that came to mind. What I meant to ask was, "What do you want?!" in an angry, commanding tone. What came out was a whimper: "Whaaat…?"

Regardless of whether or not humans can smell fear, they can certainly hear it. I heard it in my own voice, and that only made me more afraid. But he didn't react to it at all. He just stood there, smiling.

And then, after what felt like forever, he turned around, very slowly, and started dance-walking away. Just like that. Not wanting to turn my back to him again, I just watched him go, until he was far enough away to almost be out of sight. And then I realized something. He wasn't moving away anymore, nor was he dancing. I watched in horror as the distant shape of him grew larger and larger. He was coming back my way. And this time he was running.

I ran as well

I ran until I was off of the side road and back onto a better lit road with sparse traffic. Looking behind me then, he was nowhere to be found. The rest of the way home, I kept glancing over my shoulder, always expecting to see his stupid smile, but he was never there.

I lived in that city for six months after that night, and I never went out for another walk. There was something about his face that always haunted me. He didn't look drunk, he didn't look high. He looked completely and utterly insane. And that's a very, very scary thing to see.

Not so much of a Ghost story as much as it is, well, I still dunno what in the hell it was (Neither does the OPP). I was on my property out in the bush back in '05 playing war with myself and what have you. Basicly keeping myself entertained since there was nobody else around. Or so I thought. Now, I am about three or four clicks back in some thick bush planning an "Ambush against the Viet Cong" (I was into Nam back then real big), When I hear something big moving in the bushes ahead of me. I think right away, dear or moose. Then I hear whatever it is growl. Loud and really angry. Next thought was, "Oh shit, bear or wolf."  Neither. What ever the hell it was STOOD UP and WALKED ON TWO F**KING LEGS away from me. Now I did have an Airsoft Rifle that had steel rounds (illegal I know and I got in shit for it by the cops), so I panicked and kinda emptied the entire magazine at whatever it was that was walkiing away. (I was 10) It got real pissed, but ran away. I went home and told my Dad and he kinda just laughed it off... Until he went out on the 4 wheeler and found the blood trail with some seriously weird ass tracks in the leaf cover on the ground. He called the MNR and they sent an officer over to identify what I shot at (this is were I got in shit for the Airsoft Rifle with steel rounds and the OPP got involved) and he said something that i'll never forget. "I have never in all my 35 years in working for the MNR seen a track like this. What ever you shot at make no mistake, it's still around, but it will probably think twice before comming back around your direct property ever again." I stayed in my house for at least 2 years and never went out again until I had an actual firearms license and a rifle. Still to this day have never found out what I shot at nor have I seen or heard it since... Still, it creeps me the fuck out.

Its not my story but its kind of creepy...

Quick preface: I live out in the country in the american midwest on the edge of a forest. Kind of middle of nowhere farmland, but there's still other houses around although they are really spread out. Outskirts I guess you could say. Very dark and quiet at night. A few streetlights but mostly just moonlight.

I normally take my dog outside late at night before I go to bed. Nothing fancy, just a quick walk up and down the road so she can pee before we settle in for the night.
Well tonight around 3am, I'm walking my dog along the edge of the road outside of my house and I see something coming towards me along the side of the road. It's hard to make out at first, because like I said, there's very few streetlights out here. As it gets closer though, I can tell it's a kid riding his bike. He looks like he's 7 or 8 years old.
I'm standing there a little bit confused about what a child of this age would be doing riding his bike down the road at this hour of the night. When he gets closer, he stops his bike dead in it's tracks and just stares at me.
After a few seconds, I speak up.
"Ummm are you okay?", I ask him.
He doesn't reply. Just keeps intently staring at me.
"Kid, do your parents know you're out here this late at night?"
Again, he just stares at me.
"You lost? Do you need me to call your parents to come get you?", I say as I slide my cell phone out of my pocket.
The kid just starts laughing. Not like innocent childish laughter. He is full on laughing, like I am the punchline of some huge cosmic joke. He is laughing the way an adult would laugh, not the way a kid watching cartoons would laugh. It's hard to explain. It just wasn't normal coming from a young boy.
I am a bit freaked out at this point and not quite sure what to do. On a dark country road with a 7 year old kid laughing at me at 3am in the morning. I decide to make my way back to my house and call the cops to report a missing kid or something.
"Stay here, okay? I'm going to contact your parents and have them come get you...", I tell him.
Kid finally breaks his silence.
"Lucky you're one of the good people, Jacob.", the kid says nonchalantly. And then rides off down the road.
He knew my name somehow.
I watch him ride off into the darkness.

Here is my ghost story that I can tell you it is 100% real.

So I was in a sea cadet program were we got to spend time at military bases and just act like the military and see how they live and what not. So me and my friend went to a marksman training at camp Ripley in Minnesota. Any ways it was about 9:30 at night and we were about to go get ready for bed but we needed to fill up our camo packs first so we didn't have to do it in the morning. So we are in this really dark big room that has a lot of chairs and what not int it. So we are filling our camo packs when TAPS start playing (Base plays it every night) so we stop what we are doing (its just me and my friend in this room) and stand at attention. Well we are standing at attention we hear a chair move, then we look and we see this chair pull out of the row of chairs it was in and turn and face the window the way we were facing attention well TAPS was playing. Me and my friend looked at each other terrified we ran out of the room, as we got out of the room we ran into a Marine who was there teaching us to shoot better. He ask us we were running and we told him a fucking chair just moved in there. By this time a few cadets heard what we said and they came and listen (about 2 or 3 came out of the bunkers) the marine said "you guys are stupid" he went into the room and then we heard him say "Oh shit" and he came fast walking out and his face was completely white and he just walked past us and left the building. The other cadets saw his face and they could tell we weren't lying, because his face was literately ghost white.

So that night me and another cadet has Night Watch from 12:00AM to 2:00AM and I had to patrol around the building, making sure no one entered (hey they even gave me a plastic gun) and well I walked past were the other cadet was we heard a noise come from that room where the chair moved before. It sounded like pans moving around, so of coruse the other cadet made me check it out (he was a rank higher then me he was a E-3 and I was a E-2) so I went in with my Plastic gun drawn and my flash light in my hand and I saw the pans that were hanging up on the rank moving a little bit. I ran out of the room and the cadet said "Who was the other guy in there?" I was just to scared to say anything because I didn't see anyone else in there. Anyways so my shift ended and I gave it to another cadet, when we woke up in the morning the other cadet (who wasn't told about the moving chair yet) said he heard and saw a chair move in the room so did another cadet standing guard. For the following days other cadets saw and heard things come out of that room. It was to the point were no one would enter that room. A few days later (the day before we graduated from camp) we had to go back into the room to fill up our camo packs (there was bout 5 of us this time) again it was at 9:30 PM and we were getting ready for bed well we are filling up our camo packs we heard a loud bang come from the kitchen area in the room we were in, we look back there to see a bucket and a mop both tipped over. We left the room and we never entered again, oh that marine came and talked to us the following day before we left and told us he saw something or someone standing in the back of the room looking back at him.

This base has had many suicides on it and we wouldn't be surprise if this was a solider who just couldn't take it any longer and pulled the trigger on his self.

This happened in the summer of 2012, at the end of July.
