Federal Level Crime

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

I just wanted to ask about Federal Level crime. In the UK there are taskforces eg SOCA= organised crime, Germany seems to be Lander as well like our forces.

Is it just the US which has state level forces? Do they have to respond to certain crimes or do they informally assist in any call outs?

Thanks for the help

Goose

The Federal Bureau of Investigation handles large crimes, assists police departments when asked, and crimes that cross state lines, the US Marshalls apprehend fugitives, and theres probably over 50 smaller agencys I don't know about.

Sticks and stones may break bones, but 5.56 fragments on impact.

In Germany we have the BPol - Bundespolizei for National crimes. For stuff that happens in each individual state, the state police is responsible (which includes every police department in the state).

US has quite a few national agencies. Most prominent among them are Federal Bureau of Investigation or FBI, Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms or ATF, Immigration and Customs Enforcement or ICE, Drug Enforcement Administration or DEA, and Department of Homeland Security or DHS. Each deals with a specific area of expertise.

Most agencies in states are broken up by municipal level, which is your cities and towns. County level which is in some states the agency that deals with rural crime and areas which no municipal force is present, in other states, they are the most powerful agencies. Then state level, which functions just like county, sometimes the rural crime enforcers and "highway police" and sometimes the highest tiered agency. All depends on geography and every state is organized differently.

In Norway we have "Kripos" They can't handle much and normally drop cases and hide in secret offices around town and say they are overworked.

Let me explain that. The BPol is a police force in Germany that operates on National level. The regular police forces in germany operate on state level. You have one police for each state. Those then have their different sub-agencies, like the KriPo and BePo and so on.

That explains alot, I have heard of the national US agencies but understand how specific they are now, thanks. I see so it just depends on State organisation.

I have heard of the KriPol so do they support the lander police like (SOCA in the UK so they are Detectives but work out of stations usually in plain clothes) or have their own vehicles as I never saw any.

Thanks again guys
