One of the best racers. Ever.

Looks like the summer sales are on the way! Burnout Paradise and ALL DLC is currently £2.99 on steam! Thats an incredible deal!

Information:

Burnout Paradise is set in an open world environment. Players have the opportunity to progress at their own pace and level; the game, unlike others, is not actually set to a rigid gameplay framework. According to Alex Ward, creative director of the game at developer Criterion Games this game is a "complete reinvention" of the Burnout series. He also said "To create truly next-generation gameplay, we needed to create a truly next-generation game from the ground up." Initially day and night cycles were not included in the game but a software update entitled "Davis" added this element to the game. For the first time in the series, records are now kept on a player's drivers license, including statistics such as fastest time and biggest crash for every street in the game.

In previous Burnout games, "Crash Mode", was a dedicated mode in which players were given scenarios in which to cause the biggest crash. In Burnout Paradise, "Crash Mode", now called "Showtime", can be initiated at any time and place in the game. Showtime does differ from the previous incarnation of Crash Mode being that instead of crashing into a busy intersection and watching a crash play out, Showtime has you bounce the vehicle around for as long as possible to gain points. During a race players may now take any route to get to the destination.Races and other events are started by simply stopping at any of the traffic lights and applying the accelerator and brake at the same time. The game features the ability to customize race settings, such as traffic, race routes, and including/excluding cars based on their boost types.

Paradise's damage system has also been reworked. There are now two different types of crashes based on the car's condition after the crash.[7] If the player's car manages to retain all four wheels and does not break its chassis the player can drive out of the crash and continue playing; this is called a "driveaway". If a player's car loses any wheels, the engine is damaged too much from an impact, the car lands on its side or roof or lands outside of the game's map, the car is in a "wrecked" state and the player will have to wait until their car is reset. Cars dynamically compress and deform around objects they crash into.

Cars now have manufacturer and model names, which are loosely based on real-world cars. Cars may not be "tuned up" or customized apart from color changes, which may be done in real-time by driving through the forecourt of a paint shop, or by selecting the color during vehicle selection.[8] Other real-time changes include driving through the forecourt of a gas station to automatically refill the vehicle's boost meter, and driving through the forecourt of a repair shop to automatically repair the vehicle.

This game will appeal to anyone who's into the burnout series as it is one of the best ones out there, I've played this game to death, here's my record:

  • Over 200 hours on PS3 with 101% completion - This requires all road rules to be completed, all events, all stunt jumps, all smashes, everything.
  • Over 400 hours on Xbox 360 with 101% completion

I'm not sure about everyone else, But I'm picking this up while its cheap. I'll be happy to play anyone as the freeburn challenges can be frustrating!

AWWWW too bad my computer sucks. :(

Wait, will it run nicely with a Nvidia GTX 550Ti, Intel Core i5-2320 CPU 3.00GHz?

The requirements are very, very basic.

System Requirements

Supported OS: Windows XP (SP2), Windows Vista

Processor: 2.8 GHz Pentium 4 XP / 3.2 GHz Pentium 4 Vista

Memory: 1 GB RAM XP / 1.5 GB Vista (2 GB recommended)

Graphics: DirectX 9.0c compatible with Shader Model 3.0, requires 128 MB or more and contain one of these chipsets: Nvidia 6600 or greater, Radeon X1300 or greater

Sound: DirectX 9.0c compatible

Hard Drive: 4 GB of free space or more

Here's something important I've learned;

Big Surf Island

This was never ported to PC, so you can't use it

The Burnout Store was shut down for PC only in 2010

This means you can't buy the following;

  • Legendary Cars Pack
  • Boost Special Cars Pack

Although, you can modify your save file with a HeX editor to unlock them

Cops & Robbers Pack

Consoles only. Although it was epic.

Toy Cars

Consoles only.

As far as I'm aware, the online servers are still active. I can't wait to continue playing

That's really cheap, but I already have the game, and out of my own experience I can say it is worth buying :) (and I modded mine so I can drive AI cars :P )

@ninja: AFAIK those specs are better than mine and the game runs like a charm on my PC

Alright, I might get it. I might get it for console, though, if it's on sale there...because I want all the expansions :P

Its probably a steam sale only - as most of them are.

Pretty good deal, I'm surprised I didnt' see it featured on the front page. They now have Mortal Kombat for PC ported over which is pretty cool, and it comes with the DLC from the XBOX version that you had to pay for. $30. I kind of want to get it since my XBOX 360 is broken and I want the DLC, plus it might make the developers consider putting out a PC version regularly, but I don't want to use a keyboard or buy a controller for my PC. Plus I already have it for my XBOX 360.
