I don't see how that can be a joke. Many people dislike wikipedia including many/most schools. All info on their site is created by public members, and many simply post nonsense as a joke. It's good for some general knowledge, but it's not the best source for facts.

I find the reverse in a lot of cases: Specific facts are something Wikipedia is really, really good at (because citations make fact-checking easy), but a lot of articles are incredibly dense and hard to read just to get an overview. That's especially the case with math/hard science articles, which are generally written by grad students in the field.
