Upgrade RAM to improve GTAIV performance?

Featured Replies

I have a quick question. ATM; I have 6GB of RAM, with 5.74 usable. If I were to upgrade to 8GB; will it improve the performance of GTA?

Here are my computer specs:

Dell XPS L501X

Intel Core i5 CPU M 560 @ 2.67GHz

6.000 GB RAM (5.74 usable)

Just make sure to make your subject something along the lines of what you are looking/asking for.

I recently upgraded from 4GB to 6GB and it did give me a performance boost in almost all games. (Including GTA IV)

If I was you, I woluld go for it.

The only way to expect a real increase in performance is to not only upgrade the amount of RAM but make sure that the RAM is designed for gaming. Not sure if there's any good RAM out there for gaming laptops, but there might be somewhere though. I've never looked.

Does anyone know some good brands for faster RAM? Or am I looking for specific RAM specs? Thanks.

Basically you will want to look for ram of the same DDR kind (DDR2 or DDR3, depending on what the laptop takes) and then you will want to look for faster ram in MHz terms. 1000MHz ram for example, is faster than 800MHz RAM.

I'd look at what G.Skill has for laptop RAM. I've gone with them ever since I've been building computers, and it has never let me down. But like Break said, you want faster RAM in the end.

Oh that's slow for DDR3, my DDR2 runs faster, are you sure they're DDR3? If yes, then go for the upgrade.

Ya i wasn't sure if it would help at first; but at the time I didn't know what my RAM speed was; but now I am positive that I am purchasing the upgrade. Thanks for the help :D

Also; are Kingston RAM's better? Becuase I found some Kingston brand RAM's that are compatible with my computer.

I myself use 3*2GB Kingston Hyper X DDR2 @ 800MHz and I'm very satisfied with them. They never failed me, whilst when I had 2*2GB corsair ram, 2GB failed after 4 hours of pc use (when my PC was brand-new and I only had it for 4 hours). I would recommend Kingston.

The RAM hes looking at is 1333 MHz :p

And corsair & kingston its probably the best RAM out there, guess you just got unlucky. I use 24gb Corsair @ 2333 MHz myself.
