CES 2013 Futuristic Police Car

Featured Replies

One of the people I am subscribed to, went to CES 2013. He saw a futuristic style police car. It is not an exterior redo, but an interior. This car reminds me of the CME7 video. I kinda like it.

The car looks badass, it was weird at the beginning seeing the Ford logo and a Charger :P  but focusing more on the things of the video, more technology means more maintenance costes, and even lost of eficacy on some conditions (weather, terrain...), though I like the solar lightbar idea, that would save a lot of energy and money.

You mean CES 2013?

True Story: I actually got invited to that by AMD, shame I live in the UK and have no fucking money to get to Las Vegas, there was some epic stuff on show this year too.

Oh Crap, lol. Still not used to the New Year yet.

That sucks, but at least you can still watch it on youtube, and save the walking and the jet lag.

That is a really sweet car. I actually was just looking at a Tesla car in one of the malls in Toronto and that middle console is awesome.

That Tesla showroom in Yorkdale is amazing, and taking ques from Tesla into police cars is going to be awesome. Police cars are going to become luxury cars soon...

The integrated screen is nice, hopefully there's an option to unlatch the LCD from its recessed location with a swivel arm-mount. Also, the solar powered panels on the FS-Valor is a nice "green" touch.

Meh, I doubt a car tricked out to that extent will ever see much use. That Carbon Motors thing was all the rage for awhile, now the company is toast, and I don't think they got one car to agency use.

Most manufacturers give huge discounts for fleet sales, even more so if buying more than one at a time.

It depends. Police get a LOT of use out of their vehicles (if they're fleet cars) - cars running pretty much 24/7 aren't uncommon. Reliability and easy maintenance are really important. Also, demo cars are different; they tend to have one of everything (being, you know, demos). Look at a demo lighting car, then look at a real cop car. Actual agencies normally pick and choose.

Both of you make good point's, however, all police vehicles are equipped to faster then civilian car's, therefore, alot of officer run the shit out of them, plus the wear and tear from constantly running, plus the cost's to fix them, and if it get's written off, then taxpayer's have to fork out more money to pay for another vehicle, don't get me wrong, Officer should ALWAYS be safe on roadways, but some of the thing's that some of them come with are just overboard, i towed an unmarked RCMP cruiser a few months ago, the only reason i knew it was an RCMP cruiser was because i accidently flipped a switch and the light's came on (lol), anyway, i towed it because it had a flat tire, i could have saved tax payer's $30.00 to just change the damn tire, instead they had to fork out alomost $120.00 for that tow.

Are cop cars faster? I'm pretty sure they don't have governors, but I'd heard that Police Package was more about relibility.

Police kind of have to "run the shit out of" their cars. That's just a consequence of them doing their jobs; the only way to stop it would be to increase foot patrol, or to provide take-homes (this is actually one of the biggest justifications for take-homes: it's the only way to get cops to care about their cars). CVPIs are so great precisely because they can be driven like that; body-on-frame is very fast and cheap to repair minor damage.

About the tire: Maybe they could be using some kind of run-flat that can't be removed on the street? More likely, maybe they don't care about wasting money (it does seem ridiculous to tow a cop car instead of giving it a spare tire). What kind of car was it? If it was an Impala or something, the trunk might not have room for a spare in addition to police equipment (cop cars have a LOT of police equipment; while CVPIs have plenty of space, other cars may not).

Police vehicles are indeed generally faster; the civilian model of the Crown Victoria is limited to about 110MPH whereas the CVPI is limited closer to 130MPH I believe.

Believe it or not, the RCMP cruiser i towed was a Hyundai Accent LOL and the trunk was full of shit, however, spare tires can be put under a hollow flooring in the trunk or underneath, depending on the car, PPV vehicles are definetely faster, crown vic police vehicles from what i've heard have a supercharger in them that they have to take out before reselling

Also, they really should never need to be towed. Cop cars always fail at precisely the moment they are no longer needed.
