How to play GTA IV smoothly on a low end computer

So, today I started messing around with my computer and found it useful for low end pc's that if you have your screen resolution 800 x 600 and also put 800 x 600 in your gta graphics menu settings, you would have 15 - 30 fraps through the whole game...(no promises but most likely will work) I know it looks horrible, but when your desperate and you hate lagging, this is your best option... ALSO very important.... if you're going to switch your resolution, when you play the game, if you have the game on high priority, when you press a key, it will be delayed in the game...so my advice to you is put the game on normal priority.....Remember that this is only for people with low end pc's or if you like having a game with horrible graphics

I have a feeling this could be really beneficial to some people who are grasping at straws for better frame rates. Nice post.

    It's not win32 inside win32_nv8 but win32_30_atidx10 inside win32_nv8, if you have nVidia card. For AMD/Ati, it's reversed : win32_nv8 inside win32_30_atidx10.

Doing that putting that folder into that folder didn't have any performance gains for me.. but thanks.

Memturbo sux. If you want the maximum performance use game booster.

Lol... this would have been useful to me before i bought my new graphics card a few days ago. A shame i didn't see it , i could barely play GTA IV. Anyways I'm certain this will help.

Hi, the only problem I have is when I move the folder, I get that invalid resource detected problem. I've tried your fix and to no luck, doesn't work and Im pretty sure that would fix so much. Any thoughts on how I can bypass the invalid resource detected?

What type of graphics card do you have?

I have the same problem. My Graphics card is a ATi Radeon 4570.

Open your GTA IV directory and go to common/shaders/. You should see a folder called win32_30_atidx10 and win32_30_nv8 and others. Make a backup folder of win32_30_nv8 and move it into win32_30_atidx10 since you have an ATi graphics card. Hope this helps! :)

When I bought GTA IV, I knew that I didn't meet the requirements to run the game. However, the game is running smoothly after doing some discovered and undiscovered tweaks and I still do not meet the requirements. I'm going to let you in on some things you may know and some things you don't Here are my specs you need to know.

so let me get this straight...you copy win32 30 nv8 and move it into win 32 30 atidx10 and paste the backup folder in shaders?

No, what you must do if you have an ATi graphics card is move win32_30_nv8 into win32_30_atidx10. It should no longer be in located in common/shaders itself rather you should only see it in commonshaderswin32_30_atidx10. Hope this is more clear.
