A traffic officer with the Metropolitan Police (London).

  • The Central Intelligence Agency is, as the name says, an intelligence agency and not a law enforcement agency. The information they collect and analyse can however be used for law enforcement purposes

  • APD Atlanta PD You are absolutely hated by 90% of the city. They are so few that they are all protecting Atlanta from going to anarchy. This sums it up.

If I ever do want a career change, I'd probably go back into my studies at a college and earn a degree in Criminal Justice for the sake of it. After that I'd most likey be joining the Fairfax County Sheriff's Office/ Police Department (Most boring place to be a policeman) or Virginia State Police. Just as Harper said, LAPD or CHP is the goal for the future, just as soon as the money turns up OR he marries my (unaware) sister. :P

County Police Departments generally have an appointed Chief of Police, and are usually in more urbanized areas. (My county has County Police). County Sheriff departments generally have an Elected Sheriff, and are more typical in suburban/rural areas. Sheriffs also cover courts and runs county jails, etc. As County Police is a primarily law enforcement-only department. This is just the general overview, you can go into more detail, but I don't want to type all night :)

Whats the difference between COunty Sheriff and COunty Police?

In short, the Sheriff's Office deals with jails and the Police Department does street policing. Although there are about 10-15 patrol deputies around the county at one time, that's about it. :)

My county has both, and I always wondered why they created a county police when there was already a sheriff.

Makes sense.

My local SO patrols all unincorporated and contracted cities.

Also requires six years of jail service before going out to patrol streets.

And^^^^ dats why I aint joining my local SO and joining the Orange PD.

Also I'd like to make an addition*

I wouldn't mind working for the St. Louis Airport Police / Federal Protective Services.

Henry County Police Department or the Atlanta Police Department.  Though, I'd like to work with Grady EMS to get EMS experience beforehand.
