Why is non-els trending instead of ELS?

Featured Replies

I'm a bit confused as to why the non-els cars are the majority on the download page.

Isn't ELS the great mod that lets you mess with the sirens and customize the way you want?

Is this a new finding which makes ELS unnecessary anymore?

Will I have any problem with lightning regarding naturalvision?

I'm just curious

FiveM vehicles are almost always non-els, that is because ELS for FiveM is very hard on your computer from what I hear. A lot of people also use Non-ELS for single player because the lights themselves when done properly look better and break rather than staying on forever, that is especially good for when a vehicle deforms, that way the lights don't float. With the release of DLS that enables ELS style controls on any Non-ELS vehicle if set up properly, but it is more difficult to handle, DLS seems to be more popular with the lore modding community (like vapid instead of ford).
ELS is still an amazing modification making things easier on both the devs (from what I understand) and the consumer, it is also much more set in so there are still a lot more vehicles ready for ELS. Ultimately, if you want to use a wider range of vehicles, you can look into the non-els vehicles if you want and they shouldn't have issues as long as they get installed properly, FiveM vehicles are installed via LML usually if you use singleplayer. If you want DLS to have full control over lights remember you'll need to make your own config for a lot of vehicles, which unless they are set up in a way to make that possible can be quite difficult.

Mud is right but also some people might have trouble using ELS so that might be also why..

Speaking from experience with ELS and all sorts of other mods in both GTA IV and GTA V; the more stuff you add onto the game, the more likely you're going to cause problems. All players are doing is adding a ton of extra scripts to run in the background, adding on animations that aren't native to the game, multiple times over when you get several police cars involved, and adding tons of high-polygon-count models to an already busy map on an engine that may not be able to handle the detail level. This was a huge problem with GTA IV and LCPDFR, which is why I always petitioned to make as many features as possible part of the "core" LCPDFR/LSPDFR mod instead of having add-ons for everything. Because then when something finally does break, it's harder to find out what broke, and why. GTA V seems more stable overall, but I don't even have modded cars on my LSPDFR install at the moment. I'm operating with the mindset of "less is more", which has had a good track record of keeping me playing for longer periods of time without crashing.

There's also the recently released DLS mod, offering much of the same functionality as ELS, but with less stability issues.  ELS was good whilst it lasted, but more is possible on a native/semi native level with RPH now than when V modding was in it's infancy.

NON-ELS allows for a wider range of pattern configurations as well, as ELS limits User and DEV to premade patterns. With Non-ELS, you can have any pattern you want, by editing the sirensetting, without sacrificing Extras. It is also performance-friendlier. However it is more effort for the user and a challenge to unexperienced ones.

This is true, and with DLS people can have even more controls.

This is one argument I see a lot and my response to it is this: 1-2 FPS loss with ELS on anything newer than windows 98 doesn't matter.

This is also true, I have seen a lot of people asking where to put carcols, carvariations and others as well as people having issues with sirensettings limits without the adjuster. I use primarily DLS so that makes things as easy as ELS while I have it running but I don't always have it on. Almost always Non-ELS packs will be FiveM addons now which makes it very difficult for people looking to add it as replace and confusing for anyone wishing to add it to singleplayer, with or without LML.

Nothing ahead is attacking anyone, just saying what I've seen

I have heard valid arguments for and against both, none of those point towards either as superior as long as they are done right. A large number of ELS vehicles aren't taking full advantage of the system which is where a lot of the confusion about it comes from, in addition to that some people go straight to believing it is horrible because some FiveM player said so.

People also go to believing Non-ELS is impossible to use because of carcols and carvariations files, or because it doesn't use lighting stages and a siren controller by default. It is also common for people to see a Non-ELS dev as the better one due to the time put in the making carcols, I have seen someone spend an hour on a car and an hour on carcols and have a vehicle considered "the best around" while in reality its poorly optimized and half of it doesn't even work right.

So far, I've heard nothing but good things said about DLS. I'm very eager to test it, when it gains some traction over here in the european modding communities.

Mostly negligible, that's true. It varies from user to user though. It's however just another potential cause of instability, when you're running a heavily modded game. But it's NOWHERE near as bad as in GTA 4 though, with AI ELS being almost impossible to use due to constant crashing.

There used to be a time, ELS didn't exist and Non-ELS was the only way to setup lights. So there are a lot of non ELS cars still out there, especially in the German modding community, where you'll find very few new cars (publicly). However, I agree that nowadays it's mostly lore vehicles and FIveM cars that are non-ELS.

I agree 100%, there are some amazing examples for either of these methods!

I messed up the formatting big time, it's been a long time since I was really active in the forums.

Greetings 🙂
