I have 8gb of ram, and only 3.5gb of it is usable because of my os. I just bought a EVGA nvidia gt 610 2gb video card. My game still laggs on the lowest graphics settings. What do I need? RAM or more VRAM?

You didn't specify your CPU, what's your CPU specs? These factor in strongly.

Also, as far as I know the nVidia GTA 610 is rather entry level, so I'm not sure what you should expect from that. Maybe someone else who has more experience on the GPU side can comment.

Well it it ran okay on my 520. I think it is RAM that I need. The 520 was also a DDR3. Like I said I only have 3.5GB of ram for use because of my os.

before stating a game, make sure that you close any non-essential programs, press ctrl + shift + escape, and sort the processes by memory and look at whats eating the most, and see if it's ok to kill.

Your system sounds good enough to run, make a .txt file in your GTA IV folder and call it commandline.txt and add -nomemrestrict in it and then try.

I think I might end up getting the 550ti and a new os. It may take me a while but it will be worth it.
