Custom Visuals v.3.5.0 by Techengage

OVER 18K DOWNLOADS! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE SUPPORT, FOLKS!

Custom Visuals is a partial graphics overhaul that makes your game look much more realistic; from police lights to clouds! This Mod increases the ambience of all lighting in the game, makes rain, cloud movement, shadows, and sunlight more realistic, makes motion blur more tolerable, and makes coronas more vibrant and lifelike. This Mod also adds environmental lighting to vehicles, especially emergency lights. You also now have the option to have all blue, all red, and all amber lighting! There are many more things to list, but I just recommend trying it out. After all, it's only two files, not twenty.

This Pack includes two Visualsettings.dat versions, two Carcols.ymt, and a All Blue Lights Template Library. Below is an explanation of each.

Bright makes slight changes to the original game settings, while allowing full use of all police sirens. Use this if Brighter is too much.

Brighter is a complete rework of the original game settings, revamping everything from emergency lights to clouds.

Carcols.ymt is necessary to give vehicle environmental effects and allows you to change light color. One gives fast ELS-style lighting, the other is normal light pattern speeds.

Blue Light Templates is an enormous library of blue/blue lighting templates needed to make vehicle lights blue. Any requests to add to this collection will be granted in a reasonable time period.

BEFORE INSTALLING, MAKE SURE TO CREATE BACK UP FILES. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR CORRUPT SAVES/FILES. THANK YOU!

PLEASE DO NOT ASK ME HOW TO INSTALL THESE FILES BEYOND THE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS. YOUTUBE & GOOGLE ARE GREAT!

IF YOUR LIGHTS ARE NOT BRIGHT OR ARE WHITE ONLY, MAKE SURE YOUR SHADER QUALITY & POST FX ARE AT LEAST ON HIGH!!

INSTALLATION:

Use Open IV to drop either of the visualsettings.dat files into Mods>Update>Update.rpf>Common>Data

Use Open IV to drop the carcols.ymt file into Mods>Update>Update.rpf>x64>Data

Add the lines in "ADD THESE LINES TO CARVARIATIONS.TXT" to your carvariations.meta (I recommend mpvalentines2, it works for every model). Make sure to change the vehicle name and the sirensettings="" to the corresponding number (14 for all blue fast, 15 for all red, etc)

IF YOU WANT ALL AMBER / ALL RED / ALL BLUE / ALL BLAHBLAHBLAH ENVIRONMENTAL LIGHTING/CORONAS (Must have carcols.ymt installed):

  • All Amber Lighting: Change your vehicles sirensettings to 17 for LEDs, or 9 for rotary strobes. (Rockstar doesn't support amber LED reflections)
  • All Red Lighting: Change your vehicles sirensettings to 15. Recommended for police add-ons used as fire rescue vehicles.
  • All Blue Lighting (Fast Patterns): Change Sirensettings to 14. Then use the blue light templates to replace files within the .ytd file of any car you want with blue lights only.
  • All Blue Lighting (Fast Patterns, alternate sequences): Change Sirensettings to 20. Lighting has different sequences compared to 14.
  • All Blue Lighting (Slow Patterns): Change Sirensettings to 16. Exactly like 14, but with slower light patterns.
  • Blue & Red Lighting (Fast Patterns): Change Sirensettings to 1.
  • Blue & Red Lighting (Slow Patterns): Change Sirensettings to 19.
  • Blue/Blue Highway Patrol Lighting (Rotary+LEDs): Change Sirensettings to 18, used to give F5544's Highway Patrol pack blue/blue lighting. Can be used with similiar models.
  • Blue/Blue Lighting for Desmond98's LAPD FPIU v.0.7.5: Change Sirensetting to 21. Full credits to @CiscoFanboy for creating this specialized carcols.ymt code line for Desmond98's FPIU. This is absolutely necessary if you want the lighting to work on his newest update! Templates are still the same as previous versions.

 it's compatible with QuantV?

It is, but I highly recommend updating to reshade 3.0.1 and using my reshader presets.

Replace Radiance V with my Brighter visualsettings.dat, I promise you'll like it. Bxbugs is a great guy, but I honestly don't like RadV versus mine :turned:

When I add the carcols and edit the Car Variations for @Captain14's LSPD Pack, the light bars "White Out." Just the coronas show up. Is there a way around this?

Add Captain14's pack as a DLC. Otherwise add the carcols lines to your current carcols to implement them.

When I run the package installer, isn't already a DLC?

The .oiv apparently makes line changes with your vehicles.meta, etc. I didn't want any of mine touched, so I made my own DLC called lspdpack.

But make sure you are using the "sirensetting=37, 38, or 39 like Captain had it. Use the carcols I added below to replace yours. Mine are made for all blue lighting, but everything else is the same, if that is what you were trying to do.

No problem at all.

Throw me a review, if you don't mind. It'll help convince people to give it a try, too.

Not with this mod.

I don't have any "brighter than satan's butthole" issues.

Hello, sorry if this is very obvious but I have a question with the installation. I am up to the following section "Add the lines in "ADD THESE LINES TO CARVARIATIONS.META.TXT" to your carvariations.meta (I recommend mpvalentines2, it works for every model)."

So if I add those lines and change "<modelName>ADD CAR NAME HERE</modelName>" to lets say "<modelName>police</modelName>" and change the siren setting to one I choose, does that make it so only the police model has got the custom visuals or every vehicle with sirens such as all police and sheriff. I am using RDE (Realism Dispatch Enhanced) do you know if I still follow your instructions or is their different file locations needed.

I have read the comments to see if this has been asked before. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Assistance will be very much appreciated (as always I have backed up in case I stuff it up).

It will change each model individually. Changing the sirensetting for "<modelName>police</modelName>" will change the lighting for "Police" only. You can add a new line for each car, and make them each whatever you want. For another example, my Sheriff/2/3/4/5 cars use sirensetting=20 and my police2/3/4 cars use sirensetting=14. Then my fire battalion SUV uses sirensetting=15 for all red lighting, etc. etc.

I don't use RDE, but I doubt they would conflict. My Mod is meant to be compatible with everything. You can even replace the visualsettings.dat with the one offered in VisualV to attain better lighting/effects. If RDE has a carcols.ymt/visualsettings.dat, you can just use mine instead and edit the templates for the RDE add-on cars.

Thanks very much for the reply. I also appreciate the example. I tested with the police/1 model with RDE and it works with your instructions. That is awesome that each model can be changed individually. Nice job on the mod and your work is much appreciated.

sorry where is exactly is the location of the carvariations.txt? mpheist dlc pack or mp2valentine pack?

In a previous install i changed the name to mp2valentine in the carvariation.txt of mpheist and it worked, just want to make sure i installed it right.

Thanks

I'm not sure what I did wrong but when switching to all blue lights, I still have red coronas (resulting in kind of a purplish/reddish color) flashing. I switched the vehicles texture files with no issue, so I feel the issue might be when I tried editing the carvariations.meta in mpvalentine2. Any ideas?

I reinstalled and redid the vehicles texture replacement and it works. Not sure what I did the first time but clearly it was user error.

Follow the ReadMe and page description VERY CAREFULLY. It explains it well.

Beyond that, you'll need to look into editting vehicle templates further.

I'm not sure why you are mentioning mpheist, nor what you are talking about when you say you changed your carvariation.txt of mpheist to mpvalentine. I recommend putting your backups back in there and trying again after you've researched vehicle templates a tad more. It's pretty complicated, so try not to jump right into it unless you are experienced.

@TechEngage Ok, so I'm straying off the reservation here, but I liked how well the blue/blue lights worked on Captain's LSPD pack, so I tried to apply it to his Sheriff pack as well. I replaced the textures with files from your pack (although I did have to edit Captain's fed signal texture as I didn't see a similar one in your pack), and tried it to no avail. I only have blue coronas flashing from the top light bar and no leds flashing. One weird thing is the micropulse on all vehicles seems to be working with all blues. I realize this is taking your mod out of the scope of what it was meant for but I was hoping maybe you could point me in the right direction. I also changed the carvariations.meta siren settings from 15 to 14, but didn't see a change in the lack of flashing leds.

Disregard all. I've learned enough to edit carcols in the sheriff's pack to fix my problems. The issue that prevented me from just using your carcols is that the sheriff's pack uses the fedsig valor bar. I ended up with lights all over the place before I figured that out.

Exactly what you did. Change the vehicle name and sirensetting, then copy and paste all of the text into your existing carvariations.meta. I personally prefer the one in dlcpacks>mpvalentines2 because I've never had any problems using it to edit existing and add-on vehicles.
