The MTA Police Department is responsible for patrolling and securing Transit Hubs, and the infrastructure—including tracks, yards, shops, stations, and railroad crossings—of Railways, the subway, the light rail, and bus stations throughout the mass transit system.

What is the Hybrid Threat Unit (HTU)? (Click Spoiler)
The MTA's Hybrid Threat Unit (HTU) is a specialized unit within the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police Department (MTAPD). The HTU is responsible for recognizing, preventing, and responding to threats to the MTA's rail system, including potential acts of terrorism. The HTU receives specialized training to address these threats, including training in Close Quarters Tactics (CQT)
What is the Emergency Service Unit (ESU)? (Click Spoiler)
In the States of New York and New Jersey, law enforcement agencies often name their Tactical Units aka "SWAT" as "Emergency Services Unit (ESU)". In other words, these are special units tasked with responding to Tactical, Rescue and/or Critical Situations.
These types of vehicles, that resemble Fire Engines, often carry the equipment necessary for tactical and Rescue operations. I believe that they can also carry equipment for Traffic accidents and other types of equipment that a regular patrol unit wouldn't often carry.
