Vehicle Mechanics is a lightweight, standalone vehicle immersion mod for GTA V that adds realistic wear, damage, and roadside assistance to your cars. From fuel consumption and engine fires to rollover chance and tire blowouts, every drive feels more unpredictable and rewarding.
Features:
Fuel Simulation — Per-vehicle fuel levels that drain as you drive, with a customisable HUD bar.
Engine Fire & Smoke — Front-end damage can cause smoking, steam, and eventual engine fires.
Rollover Chance — Hard impacts and collisions can send vehicles rolling.
Tire Bursts — High-speed driving and damage can blow out tires.
Brake Fade — Repeated hard braking reduces effectiveness over time.
Persistent Deformation — Vehicle damage stays with the car across sessions.
Battery Failure, Oil Leaks, Radiator Leaks & Transmission Damage — Extra mechanical failures for long-term wear.
Windshield Cracking & Headlight Breakage — Visual damage from impacts.
Roadside Assistance — Call a mechanic who arrives in a van, repairs your vehicle, then drives away.
Customisable HUD — Move, resize, rotate, and recolour the fuel bar in-game.
Fully Configurable — Toggle features, adjust chances, and set keybinds via VehicleMechanics.ini.
Standalone — No LSPDFR or RAGE Plugin Hook required. Works with GTA V Legacy and Enhanced using ScriptHookV and ScriptHookVDotNet 3.
Default Controls:
F3 — Open the Vehicle Mechanics menu
F7 — Reload the INI file in-game
B — Toggle seatbelt (when enabled)
All controls and features can be customised through VehicleMechanics.ini, including fuel drain rate, damage thresholds, fire chance, notification toggles, and HUD position.
Notes:
Refuel feature is currently in development.
Press Insert in-game to reload scripts and INI changes without restarting GTA V.
Remove any old VehicleMechanics.dll, VehicleMechanics.ini, and VehicleMechanics.log from your scripts folder before installing.

What's New in Version 1.1.0
Released
The latest update focuses on making the mod fully compatible with GTA V Enhanced Edition, while also improving the mechanic service, fuel system, and damage feedback. If you are updating from an older version, delete the old VehicleMechanics.dll and VehicleMechanics.ini from your scripts folder before installing this one.
Compatibility & Stability:
GTA V Enhanced Support - This Mod now works on both GTA V Legacy and Enhanced Edition. A compatibility helper would detect which notification method your build uses preventing the original crash that occurred on Enhanced Edition users.
Mechanic Service:
The mechanic now reads your actual GTA 5 story mode money instead of using a separate mod wallet meaning if you have a lot of money in your story mode save you will to pay for the mechanic service. The cost of the mechanic is also customisable in the ini file if you're a person who's on a completely clean save.
The mechanic now drives to you, leaves their vehicle, walks in front of your vehicle and repairs it.
Fuel System:
Fuel now drains faster so you should see the bar moving during normal driving.
Fuel is now stored per vehicle handle so switching from a police car to a sports car no longer shares the same fuel value.
The bar fades from yellow to orange and then red as fuel runs low.
When the bar hits the red zone the engine will sputter and at empty fuel the engine will start to stall and no fuel notification will appear. (An update on putting fuel in your vehicle is currently being worked on).
Damage/Overheat System:
When the engine temperature alert triggers, the engine is now forced into the smoke range. If the engine is faced with another crash there is a scaling chance that the engine will ignite.
Front end damage and low end health can lead to smog steam and eventual engine fires.
If you are driving too fast and take corners too fast in the process your car can end up tipping over. (So be CAUTIOUS).
Default Controls:
F3 - Open Roadside Assistance Menu
F7 - Reload INI Settings
Installation:
Copy the scripts folder onto your GTA V main directory.
Make sure you also have an up-to-date version of ScriptHookV and ScriptHookVDotNet
