Yeah, always make backups. Very important. Actually, to reduce some crashes, try download non-els vehicles. I do not personally use ELS, only Ekalbs vanilla cars + extra skins and they look great, in my opinion.

Also, modding without having errors is tricky. Rule of the thumb; Use lightweight mods, or no mods at all. GTA IV is very unstable and prone to crashes, even without mods.

Legal copy of the game? Running the game as administrator? Latest patch? Can you post a screenshot of your GTA IV folder + the error you are receiving?

Actually, yes. Even though this software is harmless, downloading stuff from the internet that changes system critical variables isn't a very good idea. If you do it yourself, you can decide if it's a good idea or not.

You could try decreasing the in-game settings, but yes, it's most likely the modded cars you have that's causing the errors.
