  1. Sort of. They're obviously trained far better and a bit higher in status and definitely pay but in terms of duties, same sort of thing. The powers of arrest (and use of force) are limited to Commonwealth Land. Some security, especially those in hospitals and mental health facilities have greater powers in terms of use of force, arrest and detaining etc but either way, wasn't meaning to diminish the work the PSO's do but equate the duties. Not sure if it's current but in Perth in the late 2000's Wilson had a contract to provide Transperth (state buses) with security and enforcement services. They wore uniforms the same colours and styles as WAPol with "Transit Security" patches that were very similar to WAPol as well. These guys were armed with batons, OC and handcuffs (mindful OC is legal in WA and they had endorsements for the batons/cuffs) and got around in vehicles that were done up quite official looking with amber lights. They had powers to arrest and use force under some transport legilslation. Not sure if they're still doing this but I'm sure @Oblong247 could enlighten us. Having a quick look at google I see that Wilson are/were doing a similar thing for taxis. Interesting that WA has essentially farmed out a lot of what was traditionally police work to private security: http://www.news.com.au/national/guards-eye-taxi-thugs/story-e6frfkp9-1226206947775. I'd be interested to know how successful it went and if it's still happening. Pics of the car and uniform just for those interested: Wilson, MSS and Spotless all have defence contracts providing static guarding and mobile patrols to defence facilities and do 'patrol' defence sites in the ACT/surrounds (ADFA, Duntroon, JOC, etc.) but their role is pretty much to report anything to AFP (PSO's and ACT Policing) who will attend and deal with any situations. The private security just provide a 'surge capacity', if you will, putting extra eyes out there and monitoring any situations. PSO's definitely do patrol both facilities and are stationed at many other defence sites (JOC, Russel, etc.) as they're critical Commonwealth infrastructure. To my knowledge, MP's don't generally patrol ADFA or Duntroon and they're more of a response and basic investigation force... and I believe after hours they're on call only. In terms of PSO's detaining, it's very limited and I believe outside of Commonwealth premises it is only for welfare concerns (ie: self harm) but I could be wrong. The AFP Act references a 'Protective Service Offence', which it doesn't define anywhere that I can see at a cursory glance. I would hazard a guess that if they were acting in good faith and holding someone until Police arrived, though, there would be no issue as that's more or less a civilian/citizen arrest... it would only really be if the person tried to flee or force had to be used that there would be any sort of question as to their power.
  2. Red or maroon AFP vehicles with a yellow highlight around the decals are Protective Services Officers. They're not so much patrolling (little to no powers outside of Commonwealth establishments) as doing premises checks on embassies, electoral offices and similar. They're akin to the Wilson's Security vehicles you see kicking around and do essentially the same thing but for the federal government. White vehicles with 'Australian Federal Police' markings with orange highlighting around the decals (and usually red/blue coloured glass in the lightbar) are aviation or airport police. They're fully sworn AFP police officers who are generally (not always) special constables in the state they're in so they can charge under state law (though they don't generally, they'll detain until the local police arrive) and perform traffic duties etc. Usually these and the PSO cars have 131AFP or 000 written on the side as the phone number. Any other vehicle with the wavey flag style pattern and just 'Police' written on it will generally be ACT Policing general duties vehicles. They'll have a Hazard 90 bar with clear glass. These'll usually have 131444 on the side.
  3. Could be worse. ACT government employees are trialling electric bicycles to move between offices for meetings instead of the electric/hybrid cars they've been using... word is the bicycles will be staying.
  4. Most of the DPU (red noddy cars) are becoming Camry's at the moment from what I've seen/heard. Most of the national AFP cars are now Cruze's, too...
  5. @PgUp bet this is the same problem you were having with the Falcon.
  6. Exactly. I'm stickler and make all my own regardless if they're done.
  7. You can get a 30 day free trial on any of the websites (paint shop, Photoshop, etc). That should give you long enough to work out how to get a legit copy. Adobe have an $11/mth subscription option which is quite reasonable. If you do videos too you can subscribe to all the Adobe products for like $20 a month if you're a student.
  8. Wow. Didn't know they had that many police cars in Wodonga. 😜
  9. Radiance mod makes them a lot brighter. It's somewhere in downloads, on my phone at the moment so too hard to link it.
  10. It wouldn't be anything to do with the game being outdated. RPH checks that automatically and it wouldn't run correctly at all if it was outdated. It would also effect more than one file. @PgUp - I tried putting the .ytd file on mine and it displays fine ingame but I do see the same in OpenIV's yft (the lightbar not displaying correctly). Not sure if you've edited them since but I've attached my carvariations.meta and vehicles.meta from my RDE file. Try putting them in and see if it makes a difference. Also if you haven't yet, try putting the vehicle in to Police2 and see if it has the same problems (just put the model in, don't change any of the other stuff - just to see if it displays correctly). carvariations.meta vehicles.meta
  11. That's really strange. Attached a pic of the way mine is displaying. If you have changed absolutely nothing in the .ytd file, there's no reason it would do that given you got the whole mods folder exactly as is.
  12. Does the Falcon work in a different slot? ie: Put the charger in Police, Falcon in Police2 - do they both display correctly?
  13. Considering it's a copy of my mods folder and it works perfect for me, I don't understand it either. o_O Have you tried a different vehicle in that slot to see if it does the same?
  14. The VRA are actually a legitimate rescue agency and are accredited by the NSW State Rescue Board, however, interestingly enough while they are therefore allowed to run reds and blues, not all units (and this is the same for the SES) are allowed to use sirens and undertake urgent duties driving. They require approval by the NSW RTA and Police to fit a siren and use it/lights while driving. They also may not necessarily be considered emergency workers under the Road Rules and therefore may be liable for traffic infringements if they do drive lights and sirens to a job... and would be interesting in coroners court if they were going urgent duties driving and had a prang and someone died. I believe some SES units are in the same boat if they're not accredited rescue units. To my knowledge, VRA are the combat agency for mines rescue but nothing else. I believe when attending other incidents they are only 'assisting'. Fire & Rescue are combat agency for all urban search and rescue (USAR), urban fires, motor vehicles incidents requiring extrication and similar. SES are the combat agency for flood, storm, natural disaster, etc (except when requiring USAR). Ambulance are combat agency for medical responses and motor vehicle incidents with injured persons prior to and after extrication (Police maintain the 'combat' role for the road closures and investigations), RFS are combat agency for rural fires and Police are combat agency for pretty much anything else.
  15. To my knowledge they're not authorised to actually drive under urgent duties driving conditions in Queensland. The lights would just be for use at incidents, same as in the ACT. Red and blue is definitely more effective for road closures and road safety, people actually slow down, though it does attract rubberneckers more than ambers. I think it's good though, conveys a little more authority and makes it consistent across the country.
  16. Does it show up like that in game as well? That's how mine shows in openiv but works fine in game.
  17. Agreed. We have some pretty awesome unmarked cars but there's no consistency on lighting. Even individual teams will have different light setups for every car in the team. Have seen a few really nice ones recently with the antennas built in to the c-pillars of the cars so you can't even see the aerials.
  18. I keep catching myself trying to spell it with the double r as well. Just one of those words I think.
  19. Looks great but it's sheriff. 😅
  20. ACT has a few unmarked commodore Utes. Colours change quite frequently.
  21. I'm gonna try do that... or maybe just replace the graffiti around the city with 'Mac n Moose' or something. I imagine they probably just do the LEDs at the top left and right of the back window same as most other places. Maybe number plate lights too.
  22. Agreed. We should erect a statue of Mac and Moose somewhere.
  23. Love it. WAPOL used that lightbar with rotators for the longest time.
  24. First post I've 'liked'
  25. Yeah. Overwrite the cars in RDE (or add them if they're not in there). You can update the handling and carvariations within the RDE 'dlc' thing however anything else you need to go back to x64e for (I think the only important one is carcols) And yeah, @gregb150, that's the one.
