LASD is called a Department, although most Sheriff's agencies in the USA are called Sheriff's Offices, some are called Departments, like L.A.'s. Take these official LASD images taken straight from the department, for example.

I think those are LASD civilian volunteer cars, as evidenced by the amber lightbars. The one in the GTA screenshot had blue/red lightbars, I think.

I'm pretty sure it's a Los Santos County Sheriff's Department car, but how come it isn't in a West Coast-style B&W paint job? Does LASD use these kinds of cars? I know CHP does for some of their cars. If Rockstar has the knowledge to put LSSD and LSPD, chances are they might put in SAHP. They even put "SA EXEMPT" license plates into the game; that's detail right there.

The countryside looks huge! I'll probably spend more time in the sticks than in the actual Los Santos County. You're right, it does; it says "Sheriff" on it and plus the Hollywood sign is in L.A. county, if I recall correctly. If only they made it have a B&W paint job. I'm hoping we get seperate deputy peds driving those cars! Bring on the khaki-green uniforms!

Oh, man. The title scared me. For a second, I thought three cops were killed. Anyway, I remember this video, stuff was intense. Good thing the cop survived.

I agree; I want to replace the shotguns for LCPD officers with AR-15s, or even supplement them. And yes, across the USA, regular patrol officers do use carbines, such as AR-15s. They keep them in their cars, ready for action, due to criminals having more firepower these days. In fact, on a recent episode of COPS, officers responding to a shots fired call (I believe it was in Amarillo, Texas) pulled out their AR-15s when arriving on scene. Back in 1997, the LAPD squared off against two bank robbers wearing body armor and armed with assault rifles. Their pump-action shotguns and pistols were useless against them and only when LAPD SWAT was called in were the suspects neutralized.

I second this. As it stands, the cops are too easy to take out when you're playing as NB/JK/LFL.

GTA Garage has a lot of realistic weapon damage mods, ma'am. Also, LCPDFR's "Hardcore" mode makes it so the player character is killed with one or two shots.

If you're into military-themed shooters, play ArmA 2. It's like BF3, only a hundred times larger and realistic.
