Seriously those things are pure bullshit.

Like the example in the screenshot. My attempt was apparently wrong. Well maybe then don't put a big fat line inside the letters then? The more advanced captcha (the one with "click all the traffic signs" or "all the cars) is equally dumb as apparently small parts of those items don't count. Why do they make them so bad?

Please consider removing them, at the very least for users who aren't new, if robot downloads are what you are fearing. 

I am certainly getting sick and tired of trying up to 5 times before I get to download something, and often seek to download stuff on other websites if duplicates of certain mods are available.

they're not that hard. bur as annoying as they are they work alot better then nothing at all

They're very hard. Sometimes it takes 5 or 6 tries to solve that shit. 

Some of us live in countries where handwriting doesn't exist anymore, thus making it very hard to read that crap.
