LCPDFR not working, GTA IV opens.

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone,

A clan member of mine recently bought a laptop I recommended to him to play GTA IV on (For those curious, it was this one: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16834246328), and he downloaded GTA IV: The Complete Edition off of Steam. So he asked me to help him mod the game for him. About 5 hours after he got the laptop in the mail, I Remote Assisted him and downloaded my mod pack. After we got it all setup, I told him to test it out. As soon as he got in the game, he couldn't turn LCPDFR on. I told him to see if anything else worked, such as ELS, and everything else was working. So, I went on his laptop and took everything mod related out of the game directory, and I tried to reinstall LCPDFR again via the installer. As soon as I got to the end, but before the installer actually installed anything, it came back with this error:

Installation component 'CppScriptHook' error'd!

at System.IO.FileStream.Init(String path, FileMode mode, FileAccess access, Int32 rights, Boolean useRights, FileShare share, Int32 bufferSize, FileOptions options, SECURITY_ATTRIBUTES secAttrs, String msgPath, Boolean bFromProxy, Boolean useLongPath)

at G17MediaSetupEngine.UI.Interface.wizardControl1_SelectedPageChanged(Object sender, EventArgs e)

at G17MediaSetupEngine.UI.Interface.wizardControl1_SelectedPageChanged(Object sender, EventArgs e)

I then logged onto the LCPDFR website and directly downloaded LCPDFR RC2. Same result. So, I waited til the next day to try. Had him restart the computer. Same result. So I went onto the LCPDFR website and went through the troubleshooter. Finally got the installer to work, but still had the problem of LCPDFR not starting in-game, even without any other mods. All other mods still work. Because LCPDFR wasn't starting in-game, there was no LCPDFRErrorLogging file yet. So I downloaded the G17 Diagnostics Tool. When I ran it as an administrator, it couldn't find the game directory (I should also mention that the LCPDFR installer couldn't find it, as well). So I went through his Windows Registry to make sure that it had all the correct keys in it. It was completely identical to mine. This is where I am stumped. LCPDFR isn't working at all, G17 Diagnostics can't find the game, so I can't get a log from it, and his registry is fine.

I hope this gives enough information for us to get started. Thank you in advance for any help received. I am sure my clan member would appreciate any help, as well, since he's invested $600 to do nothing but play GTA IV with LCPDFR.

PS. I am working from this computer remotely, so I can't give feedback right away or physically alter the computer itself.

  • ~stare~ Any who....can you perhaps post his diagnostic log please? If it cannot find the location, place the diagnostic tool in the GTA folder and that should help it locate it

is the game upto date? are you running the installer as admin? do you have the pre-requistes?

@rjn4, After I install any mods on mine or someone elses computer, I always make sure the entire game directory is not Read-only. I wish it was that simple, though. I did search the forums, but I couldn't find any solutions. I am not one to waste one's time for something already fixed before.

@Asuna, The game is up to date via Steam Update, and is v1.0.7.0. The installer and G17 diagnostics tool were both being ran as administrator. Not quite sure what you mean by pre-requistes.

I would also like to point out, before anyone asks, is that I made him a shortcut of LaunchGTAIV.exe on his desktop and updated the compatibility properties so it always ran as an administrator. I informed him to only use that shortcut to ensure his mods would work.

Thank you guys for your time and effort out of your days to help me. It means a lot.

Ah, sorry. Yes, we put a fresh install of C++ and .net framework on there, and made sure GWL was updated, as well.

I just went through and made sure that he had x86 and x64. Could having both versions cause the issue? Also, the LCPDFR installer still can't automatically find the game directory. Can this cause LCPDFR to not fully functional, even if I put in the right directory?

You should have both if you have x64 system. Not sure about the second one.

PS. I wonder how many bronies we have here on the forum...

I don't think so, since Steam separates them into two different game directories, grand theft auto iv for the original and Grand Theft Auto IV Episodes from Liberty City for the episodes. Is there something in the registry I may have overlooked? Such as a binary key that needs the game directory?

PS.

And yes, there is still a problem...

Can you manualy check for LCPDFR files in GTA directory?

[offtop]I think that I'll create a topic in Random called "Are you a brony? - First LCPDFR brony census".[/offtop]

As in LCPDFR? Yes, I can. I just have to browse for it. Not too hard... However, does LCPDFR use the registry in-game to find out where the game directory is to enable itself, or is the programming itself self-aware of which folders to go to from it's own location? Or am I just overthinking this? I am a basic C++ programmer through CMU, so I kinda know how the language itself works...

So, is there a folder LCPDFR inside "scripts", which are located in GTA4 root directory? BTW, Can't you specify path to GTA4 directory manualy in installer (I can't check it right now)?
