Embarassed To Have Ask ... Vehicle Model Installation?

Featured Replies

So, i twould appear I finally have LSPDFR properly installed. I had to play a pretty decent portion of GTA 5 storyline before I was given the freedom (without failing a timed mission or something) to actually get myself to a police station. Thats the only annoyance so far ... I always have to participate in the GTA mission first to get to that point with each retry. I hope as I progress that will change.

Anyway, I'm at a point now where I want to explore different liveries. It is one of the features of LSPDFR that I find so appealing. I've downloaded several packages, stgandalones and textures, but sadly, I'm struggling withthe installation and execution process. I've Googled, but found not much helpful. Most suggestions, and most of the file's readmes and/or installation notes are either too advanced or unrelateable as they make reference to a file structure (different folders, folders I don't have etc) that I can't match.

There was only one package installation that was straightforward ... one that had a package installer for openIV. But the rest don't have specific instructions ("install vehicle files in your latest patch day and install????"  or no instructions at all ... just folders.

With so many different ways developer share their packages, and so many different levels of users, I respect that their isn't a simple answer to my question. Can anyone explain to me how to install vehical and pedestrian type mods? Are their any generic references out there that I have missed. I really do apologize as I know the info is likely out there, but that information may not be easily interpreted by others without the same savy. Please be patient as this is new to me, and the concepts are very unfamiliar.

Oh boy...... where to even start. I want to help you because I remember where you were at one point.  I truthfully was so overwhelmed when I initially started but I scoured these pages and forced myself to read and pick up little tips as I went.  The key was attempting to the best of my ability and failing many times until the little things all made sense.  Unfortunately you likely will need to do the same.  It is absolutely impossible (for me at least) to write out in a post how to do this.  But I can give you a great starting point and basically a MUST if you are going to mod

1.  Make a mods folder in open iv !!!! Google “lcpdfr mod folder” or something like that to get a description

2. I make a separate folder on my desktop for all the original files.  If you change ANY file at all, before you do drag that original file out of open iv and put it into your backup folder. That way if something goes horribly wrong or your game crashes (it will happen many times while you are starting off. Get used to it) you will have the original right there to replace

3. Only make one change at a time and then load up the game to test.   That way if it crashes you know what files caused it

4.  Youtube “how to add real cars gtav” in Youtube.  The author is firstthirtyminutes

it may or may not be outdated a little but the basics are there.

This is my take on it.  These steps seem basic and aren’t exactly what you asked.  But if you don’t do them first , don’t bother trying to add cars.

You worded this perfectly! One minor correction for step #1.  Google "lspdfr mod folder".  LCPDFR will get you to the GTA IV variant. 😛

In terms of where to install the car, head to mods-->Update-->x64-->dlcpacks-->patchday19-->dlc-->x64-->levels-->gta 5-->vehicles.rpf.  This RPF is where all your replacement vehicles go,

I need donations to help fund my food addiction. DM for details 😂

Thanks all! I appreciate the input, but wow this is something over my head.

Do I make the file additions/edit to the mod folder or game folder? Sometimes the directory tree asked for in the instructions isn't in my mod folder. How do I create them.

Everything goes into the mods folder.  If your working in another file that hasn't been copied over to the mods folder yet you select up top "copy to mods folder" after edit mode has been selected.

Here are some pages that helped me tremendously.

Just adding, you don't have to be embarrassed about asking stuff like this. Those guys that install dozens of different models and packs for videos and self-enjoyment didn't just wake up one day and learn how to do it. Shit takes time. Hell, I'm always somewhat worried when I mod, because even though I use a mods folder, I'm still worried I might fuck something up.

Modding this game is a unique experience that can't be compared to anything else. You'll have what seems to be the most obscure issue ever that will take hours for someone to reply to, if anyone even replies at all, and the solution will either be so simple you'll never get over it or so strange that you'll accidentally learn the fix and never encounter that problem again. But one thing is certain: it's almost always your fault.

Oh cool. Thanks for compiling these resources to start me in the right direction. I'm finding a wealth of information on YouTube ... some are better than others, and some conflicting and vague instructions. But I'm on my way.

Thanks for the encouragement!

Just as I was getting into the swing of things GTAV was given an update along with RageUpdateHook. Now I'm unsure if my failed progress is installation problem or a result of the update. I have read that sometimes updates can wreck havoc on mods.

Hey pcGAMEZguy, thanks for the nudge!

Both were updated when I reinstalled GTAV and took the July update of GTAV. In fact with the new update, I couldn't run LSPDFR without first updating RageUpdateHook. I can't get ELS to work for the life of me, so as part of my troubshooting, I also downloaded and installed the latest Scripthook. So, I think I'm as updated as I can be.

When you load everything in try hitting the scroll lock key.  Sometimes its activated by default.  You can deactivate when ELS is on to do other things while in the car that require the same controls.
