It's difficult to conceive for us because here, when someone has their car searched, it's either after they've been actually arrested for a proper reason, or while having the owner of the vehicle just standing on the side with another police officer, not cuffed, not detained, just standing there and waiting. That's the thing that I think eludes us europeans, that kind of culture of violence you have over there with people ready to kill for the slightest offense.

That is literally how it usually happens here.  The searches usually happen if the driver gives concent or if there is probable cause.  And when there is probable cause the suspect is usually detained awaiting to find out if the officer is going to press charges, issue a ticket/notice to appear, or let the individual go free.

The stuff that you guy's usually see is not every day life here.

Yes I have seen cop's beat the crap out of someone for no reason, yes I have seen cop's disregard there life in order to save or stop someone. And yes I've seen cop's let people off with verbal warnings.  But what you see is not as common as the news makes it look.

We have almost 326 million people in this country spread out over 7.5 million km with only 1.1 million officer's (as of 2008) with a people that are inherently more free do do what ever it is that they wish to do/own.

I have had my vehicle searched twice.

1) I was not detained and they searched my person and vehicle after I gave consent.

2) I was detained and searched because my vehicle matched a suspects vehicle.

I do not know much about European cop's, but I have been appalled by some thing's that I have seen, just as I have been appalled as to what I have seen U.S. cop's have done. But it is not as common as you would think.

Be kind, Rewind.....

This is going to change nothing. They know legislation that specifically tells cops when they can use deadly force, won't get passed, so they did this instead. Which makes the politicians involved loo

I don’t think it’s healthier for the cops who end up getting stabbed lol

  • Prepare to have a mass exodus of cops from California.   Stupid.

It also appears that California has the largest police force in the US, so it makes sense for them to have high numbers when it comes to that. I don't see your point.

That's not how it works when it comes to this. A larger police department doesn't automatically mean more police deaths the same way that a larger country would mean more deaths.

You sure as hell can't post statistics here without any context or any other factors that could possibly influence those statistics though.
