What your Troopers carry

Featured Replies

So I came across this gem today.  For anyone curious what their state law enforcement agency is carrying this list was posted by Massad Ayoob compiled by his friend Mike Wood.  Keep in mind some agencies might be in the process of transitioning to another handgun and the list will always be updating (no I'm not going to keep this list updated).  I just thought I'd post it for people interested in this type of thing.

Massad Ayoob - To update the list, I believe Georgia has gone from the Glock 37 in .45 GAP to the Glock 17 in 9mm with Speer 124 grain +P 9mm ammo, and word is that South Carolina is also switching from the G37 to the G17.  Texas troopers I talked with told me they were less than thrilled with the idea of going down from their powerful .357 SIGs to 9mm (in the SIG P320 version, not the S&W after all apparently). 9mm is the least powerful handgun US police are generally allowed to wear in uniform , and Texas troopers I’ve talked with are clinging to their .357 SIG P226 pistols for so long as they’ll be allowed.

There's rumors floating around that we will be switching over from P226's in .40 to Glock 17's sometime in the future as MSP had just made the same switch in the last year.

All modern defensive handgun loads in the major calibers perform mostly identically ballistically.

Well, if people are interested in what German Highway Patrol officer carry, I'll post a photo here.

(It is the Heckler & Koch (Yes, that is the company that produces good guns like the HK G36 *cough*) SFP9, chambered in 9mm).

That's incorrect, not every German State uses this sidearm...

I'm a simple man.  I see Massad Ayoob's name mentioned, I upvote.

I also wonder if any reasonably large agencies still offer a revolver as a duty carry option.

Yep, Hong Kong Police Force! For patrol that's the only offered carry weapon if I understood the cop I was chatting with correctly (or if he understood me...)

Yes. The patrol officer either carry a S&W Model 67 or S&W Model 10. Crime investigators carry a SigSauer P250 or P225. Also, almost every Asian country still uses revolvers as duty weapons. For example, the Japanese police forces use a "New Nambu M60" revolver in .38 special.

The P225(they used the P6 Version) was also used in so much German State Police and Bundespolizei(until 2005 called Bundesgrenzschutz) and the State Police Police Saxony Anhalt still use the P225 but plans to Replace the P225
