Where do you find your resources? (new to creating textures)

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Last night I gave it go at making my first texture. It was crap. But I learned a few things and want to hone the skills on creating something worthy of releasing. Where do you all get your resources such as the logos of each department? I can add texts and whatnot but it's the logos I'm having a hard time sourcing and resizing - specifically the BCSO and LSCSD, but eventually will need all the other departments sourced.

Also, when the time it right, I could use help with getting certain sized features to not be blurry (but I really have no clue on where to begin on describing it all) - but almost everything I added turned out blurry in game (though did not appear so on the design canvas or when checked on openiv...

Anyway, thanks in advance for any help.

Some people will fully recreate their department's badges, logos, license plates, etc. like @Slendis so asking him would be best if you want to recreate them, but if not you can just look up "X police department badge" find a good quality one, color drop their text color, find the font, and then cover up the existing text with the color of the background, and then type "Los Santos Police" or whatever you want to cover it up.  For the blurriness, make sure your file size/canvas is 4096x4096, and in OpenIV the MipMap level is 1.

Only in the +hi.ytd, though. Lower resolution 2048x2048 should be made with full MipMaps and placed in the .ytd.

Thank you, I'll attempt changing the canvas size tonight to correct the blur. The logos may need to wait a bit until I can tackle each tool and work on my editing.

Thank you, I'll try this canvas size as well.... does it matter that the model(s) I'm beginning to work on don't all have a +ytd file? I'm assuming if they don't then the 2048 size should be sufficient...

Add it. Just take it from a default model and delete the contents. Then import the 4096 textures into that.

lol I'm so green at this I am legitimately going to have to do my research on this. The skin I made last night was SO basic but it gave me a very broad understanding of what needs to be fixed, what I need to do better, and what I need to learn. That being said, I need to also be able to fully understand what you, T0Y, and everyone else on here is telling me (yea, I'm that new to this). So I have work to do. But I appreciate you guys taking the time to help with advice

can you upload a pic of what you have made so far or a link to a video with it. I am new at this also and have been working the last few hours on a basic livery for a 2015 Charger. Would love to see others peoples work.

I was designing a simple, clean design and turned out fairly well so far. Now I am trying to customize it for each department, etc. I have added a CA exempt plate and a Blue Lives Matter plate. Now just figuring out the rest of the colors and decals

@LegionGL that looks great for your first go. This is my first attempt, a BCSO sheriff livery. It needs a lot of work but I know what I did wrong with the lettering. Now it's just a matter of time until I learn how to fix the blur of the images as well

I think that looks good. U did a good job.

As for images, look for high quality ones on google. That's where I find mine. If not then u will need to create them in Photoshop from scratch. I have been lucky so far with mine.

Also, If you are looking for badges and stuff, there is a site http://www.badgecreator.com/vb01.php where you can go in and create custom badges. So if u know what you are looking for, go in and create it, then click on the image and save it. BAM a high quality image.

The rest of my stuff, like templates and such, I get from downloading other peoples vehicles from lspdfr.com and some actually have the templates inside the file to make your own liveries.

But again, Awesome job on yours.

Thanks! It needs work but getting it installed showed me exactly where I need to improve on this first go round. Thanks for the resource too, I'll check that out next time I'm working on it all

Yeah no problem. It takes awhile to learn. I struggled last night figuring out how to change color in the carvations.meta last night. Its fun to learn

Ha! I'll add that to my "to learn" list considering I wouldn't even know where to start with that just yet

Thanks... adding the cars/textures I think I have down. It's just the actual creation of decent skins I want to learn, which I think is more of learning to use PS proficiently enough. We'll see. Hoping to work more on them this weekend.

let me know. Always wanting to trade ideas and learn. I am having issues getting my outlines tight. they usually leave small spots. Thats why i recently set one of my cars to a specific color when it spawned in. it help hide my mistakes :)
