Hey guys,

Do any of you know how to import a 3ds max light(omni,directional spot,etc...) into gtaiv? When I try to export it with GIMS, it gives me an error stating that the object has is missing geometries.

Any help would be appreciated. For example. How can I make a lamp give off light? That's the part that gets me.

For lighting you have to use dummies, for example the police lights on a car are names siren1, siren2 etc.

Not sure what you're trying. Did you use ZModeler, and import a 3DS Max object into ZModeler, and then export to GTA IV? Because only with ZModeler you can get your creations in GTA IV.

Using OpenIV(I created a new IMG file and placed it in models/cdimages) then with 3dsmax using the GIMS plugin, I exported an open document file and then imported it with openIV into the new IMG file I made. Of course, I had to add the new IMG file into the images.txt file.

I just went into the game and typed spawn lightball and the sphere I had made worked.

I did all this without counting on zmodeler.

Now im just trying to make a lamp and see if I can get it to light up :)

Anyways, if you want working emergency lights upon your car you will have to add Dummies in ZModeler, and name them correctly. The dummies take care of the default lights for you.

ZModeler is inferior in every way to 3DS+GIMS+OpenIV except vehicle modelling and it will not have that one day.

Import a lampost from /data/maps/props/roadside/lamppost.img as an example of the light emitting texture and light, bm_wall_light_01.wdr is the one I used to get my spotlight mod started.
