Game Crashes - How do I view diagnostics?

Featured Replies

Hey all,

New member here (long time lurker, was always envious of these great mods, but only recently picked up a half-decent PC and a copy of IV: EFLC to go with it).

Anyway, I've installed a police car into my game (an LAPD one) but only thought to back things up after that, so I'm kinda stuck with that car as far as I know. The car has never given me any issues though. It works fine, and was grand if ELS V.5 and such. I had a few car mods and ELS installed, but reverted back to my 'backup copy' of the game recently to try out LCPDFR. So the game is 'as new' but it still has that LAPD car.

Anyway, I can play the game for about 3-4 mins. I generally have time to go on duty, get to the nearest police station, get out, pick a character, pick a car and drive around the corner before the game shuts itself off with a "fatal error" message, pretty much telling me to restart the game.

However, maybe I'm just a complete idiot, but I can't seem to access or view any diagnostics to allow me to troubleshoot the problem (or follow the sticky). Was wondering if anyone out there fancied telling me how to acutally get the diagnostics list up so I can browse through it?

I've tried the windows diagnostics tool and such, and it tells me I've two issues (one of which is related to GTA: San Andreas) but nothing IV related.

I know it's probably something simple, but it's gone over my head at the moment.

Shane.

Cheers for that Tom H. Extremely useful.

This is what it gives me (note, I unticked the 'Check IV' box, and only had the 'Check EFLC' box ticked, as I only own EFLC. Does this matter?). Don't suppose anyone can help me decipher this? (truth be told I haven't read it yet, and I'll take a flick through in a moment, but it never hurts to ask those more knowledgeable and experienced for assistance).

It replaced 'police' as far as I know (not police2 or police3, just 'police', the first one).

Do you reckon that's an issue?

I have the cars police and police2 in my parking spot outside my safehouse (as i was changing them a lot initially and didn't want to have to keep going looking for them). Not sure if this is a glitch or issue or such, but Police 2 is the car it always was. This one:

But when i go outside my safehouse, it has no lightbar since I installed LCPDFR (i don't have ELS installed). When I see it driving around the streets it's fine, but just the one that's parked in my parking space has no lightbar (and no light effects when I press the siren - though the siren/horn still functions as normal. When i steal one from the streets that does have a lightbar, it has light effects).

1) The crashes will be caused by the fact that you have modded the "police" slot. Remove the current mod, Rename the two files to "noose" and then install them instead. If you haven't made backups of the original files download them here (Second download down)

2) You need to disable ELS for the slots that do not have ELS cars installed in them. To do this, open up the "ELS.ini" in your GTA folder and change "Active=1" to "Active=0" for any slots that are not modded. Then get rid of the car without a lightbar and get a new one, and it should be fixed.

I don't actually have ELS installed at all at the moment.

Your vehicles backup worked to the extent that it's after bringing back the original two police cars and my LAPD car is gone. However, the cars that are in my parking spaces are still spawning without lightbars on their roofs. The same cars driving around have lightbars, but just not the two I have in the parking space. The game crashed again after a minute or two, so I'm gonna try and see if i can start it again, get those two cars out of the parking space, throw a random non-emergency vehicle in there instead, and save the game without any police cars spawning with no lightbars. See if it works at all.

Back in a moment :)

Really, genuinely appreciate you taking the time to help me out here Tom.

Yeah, I replaced 'police' with an els-enabled LAPD car (though ELS isn't actually installed).

That's gone now though, since Tom linked me to the download that restores the original cars. However, in spite of the LAPD car being gone, when the two police cars spawn in my parking spot, they have no lightbars on their roofs (though the same cars driving around DO have light bars on their roof).

At the moment, I'm trying to start the game, get another car to ram them out of the parking space, and re-save without them there, but theg game keeps cutting out just as I'm about to get to save it.

EDIT: I'm having no luck whatsoever with getting rid of the cars. The game keeps cutting out just as it's going to go into the save menu so I'm assuming it's happening on purpose and I'll never be able to save the game without the police cars in the parking space?

I can save it with the cars still there, but once I try to put a different car there (or no car at all) the game crashes when I try to save. A little annoying. Must see if i can delete that save game.

Everything I've been doing has been in TBOGT, so I went into TLAD instead, did the first mission/s and saved it over the TBOGT save game.

I went back into TBOGT and it seems that it's still loading the saved game, but it's gotten rid of the police cars in favour of a different car that I tried to replace them with earlier (so maybe it did save just before it cut out?!).

Anyway, the long and short of it is that it now seems to be working okay... I've just went on duty, responded to a call, accidentally murdered the suspect, and drove around for a minute or two, and the game didn't shut off at all (which is obviously all good news!).

So I suppose my last questions now are, can I install car mods into the game now, or ELS, or will that just mess things up again (I'm making a backup of the game now seen as everything is functional at the moment).

Righty oh... I've been toying at it for a little while now, and all seems pretty good!

It seems to be working now, which is great news. I look forward to enjoying this. Thanks very much for your help guys. I really, genuinely, appreciate it. I'll be sure to hang around this site :)
