GTA IV has stopped working ERROR

Featured Replies

My GTA Includeds:

- Some ENB /w textures

- Modded cars

- New hud, colours, guns, player models ect ect

- Indicator script

- ELS

- Trainer

- Traffic Load

- PATCH 1.0.7.0

- Scripthook, Scripthook.net, Advancedhook.dll, Crashhook.dll

- LCPD:FR RC2 R2

Game was fine until I added LCPD:FR - Game crashes a few seconds into game if I start a police chase, shooting, explosions, anything dramatic. Come up with the GTA IV has stopped working error. I want to play with modded cars, guns, ENB ect to make it more realistic but I cant put my finger on what is making my game crash and I'm sure it's LCPD:FR. It's always been a bit buggy for me. Example is it will stop after about 3 call outs or if I press NUMPAD 0 my arm points in the air or goes floppy with any weapon I have.

Rather annoying. Can anyone help? D:

Intel I7 2600k

GTX 580

8GB Vengeance Ram

800w PSU

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say some mods don't play nice and crash the game, num 0 is a pose key and some times it works some times it doesnt

The behavior of the crash in the video you posted appears to be an ELS crash (or a script error of some sort, seeing how you have so many mods). Can you please check for this? To do so, go to Control PanelSystem and SecurityAction CenterReliability Monitor, right-click on any intance that was a GTAIV.exe crash, and press "View technical details," then press "Copy to clipboard" on the bottom and paste the error log here. Additionally, please run the diagnostic tool and post the diagnostic log to check if there are any missing components and/or script errors.

Hopefully, we can assist you further and get the mod working for you!

I hope this is some help

Aww bummer. I can downgrade no problem but what will AI disable?

No, the AI can still use ELS in v5. It is just suggested that you turn ELS for AI off if you continue to experience crashes with ELS though.

Thankyou for the help people. It's working fine now, textures are a bit slow loading which kinda sucks but the graphics it's self look quite good.

Just a quickie, I have a Dodge Challenger police car but I don't like it. I want to keep it cause the skin matches the skins of my other cars. The ELS seems to muck up on it quite a bit. The lights will turn off or stop working and then start working again when I have auto on and the sirens. Any fix?

Ok I just replaced

- Ambulance

- Firetruck

- Noose

- FBI

- Police

- Police 2

- Polmav

- Helicopter.ivaud

Added First Person.ini and First Person.asi. Also replaced dsound.dll

EDIT: Ran the diagnostics tool and there was 1 error. ASI Loader out of date. Anyone got an in-date ASI loader and will this fix my problem?

Now my GTA IV boots up and about a second or so before I actually get into the game, it takes me back to the desktop with no error message or anything. Took out both First Person files and it still doesn't work. Tried looking at the resource monitor but there is nothing for todays date :s

EDIT: Fixed removed 2 files of First Person and not all 3

Now I have a problem when I play. Does the same as my first problem but it's alot sooner as in a few seconds in or when I try and start ELS.

If you want to keep the skin of the Dodge Challenger, just use SparkIV or OpenIV and extract the textures within the respective vehicle's texture archive (e.g. police.wtd) and save it on your computer. Then, install a different Dodge Challenger and reapply the skins. Unless the modder used a different model or texture map, the skin should work fine on the new model.

Based on what you've told me about the First Person mod you installed and how you replaced dsound.dll, you probably replaced the one installed by LCPD:FR with an outdated version. You can either reinstall LCPD:FR to install the newest dsound.dll file or find it online elsewhere as a standalone download. Make sure when you install mods that you are not replacing crucial components for running mods, such as dsound.dll (which is an ASI loader), even though it is included in the files given. You have to use your judgement on what to install and what to replace, if it indeed needs to replace some files. Also make sure to install mods that are for your version of the game and not for other versions, as ones for other versions usually include older ScriptHook.dll, ASI loaders, etc.

Lastly, it appears that you are still getting the C0000005: System Access Violation Exception error. This error only comes from running poorly written script mods, running script mods that weren't meant for your version of the game, or running the game without administrative priveleges. Are you sure positive you are running the game as admin? Make sure that you right-clicked on LaunchGTAIV.exe, clicked on "Properties" in the drop-down menu, went to the "Compatibility" tab, and then checked "Run program as Administrator" near the bottom.

Turn Vsync off all it does is eat up the game and your FPS....

Keep in mind that in doing so, you'll most likely experience horrible tearing effects, especially if you use ELS, as Vsync locks the rate at which the GPU produces images at the same rate at which the monitor can refresh at. Yes, Vsync does eat up system resources, but I keep it on to prevent this terrible experience.

Thanks guys, it worked. Replaced the Dsound.dll file by installing LCPD:FR again. Only problem that I have left is, I was spawning cars with ELS via the trainer. Most cars were fine until I got to Police2 then it crashed. Went back on, spawned police2 and it was fine so I don't think it's the vehicle its self. I have noticed that the sound of the vehicles doesn't work until I drive them for a while. Example, I get in my car and there is no vehicle sound. Drive around and then it springs to life and starts working.

Really appreciate your time and help guys. In fact, I'm going to give you all a +1 ;D

You are still experiencing the same crash due to ELS. It's a very unstable mod due to the constant reloading of vehicle models. I rarely spawn vehicles using SNT, but when I do, I experience no problems at all, even when spawning ELS-enabled vehicles. Also, what you are describing about the cars spawned "coming to life" a few miles down the road later is normal—it happens to me sometimes as well, although usually not. I don't know what else to suggest to you other than try different ELS vehicles and see if they still cause crashes when being spawned multiple times. Just because you can occasionally spawn a vehicle doesn't mean it still isn't unstable; it should be able to be spawned all the time. Since you've already tried downgrading to ELS v5, there's nothing else to try really in an attempt to prevent ELS crashes, other than to possibly play on EFLC instead. I hear many members experience zero ELS crashes in EFLC, whereas I still experience—and live with—ELS crashes in GTA IV.

Or, you may have just spawned more cars with high-polys than your computer can handle. This is normal if you do spawn way too many normal cars or too many ELS-enabled cars. I only say this in addition because you said you spawned many cars up until "police2," which it could have coincidentally crashed because you have spawned too many cars already prior to spawning it.

I'll give it a go on ELFC - I just got it on Steam. I did play with LCPD:FR yesterday but it turns out it doesn't like me haha. I have it on video where I went to a domestic disturbance. Arrested the guy but I some how went inside of him and became invisible O.O - I do have a trainer but I turn't keys off. Then about 5 minutes later, this..

I really have no more ideas about why your game is crashing if you've followed all the steps and instructions properly. That exception code is still the same, meaning the same as before.

Just to make sure, let me know if you already did the following. I only ask this because you are still seeing the same exception code of System Access Violation Exception.

1. Ran the installer as an administrator by right-clicking it and choosing "Run as Administrator" in the drop-down menu.

2. Set your game's root directory not marked as "read-only." To check for this, go to your game's install folder, right-click it, and look at the "Attributes" section near the bottom. Make sure that "read-only" is unchecked.

3. Right-clicked on LaunchGTAIV.exe, clicked on "Properties" in the drop-down menu, went to the "Compatibility" tab, and then checked "Run program as Administrator" near the bottom.

By the way, I actually have the same GPU, and am running the game fine with no problems. ELS (v6) will occasionally crash on me, but that's expected and I live with it. Without an ENB, I get 80+ FPS (on 1.0.4.0) and ~40 FPS with an ENB, whereas on 1.0.7.0 I get only 60 FPS at most without an ENB and ~20 FPS with it. So, another problem that is hindering you may be the ENB that you are using, as patch 1.0.7.0 is notoriously the worst patch for GTA IV in terms of all aspects—stability, performance, graphics, you name it. That's why I play on 1.0.4.0 for GTA IV (when I want great graphics) and 1.1.2.0 for EFLC (when I want all mods to work). You can feel free to for examples of what the game looks like on 1.0.4.0.

This might help but you will want to skip to the end at about 15m to see the crash. I was making one of my first proper LCPD:FR video's, which is why it's a bit slow (still getting use to the controls). I was chasing a suspect then it crashed D:

I'm pretty sure that has to do with ELS, as it crashes on me like that as well. Unfortunately, there's nothing that can be done about that, since ELS is very unstable. As some other players have said, you can try putting non-ELS vehicle mods into the "police" and "police2" slots, as they are the most loaded vehicles by the game and are most likely the cause of ELS crashes. Alternatively, you can disable ELS for AI to see if that helps, as I saw the AI had ELS enabled in your video.

I will give that a go and get back to you. Would you mind sending me a link to your ENB? Problem with mine is it is too dark at night and has red sky :(

Keep in mind that I said I am running patch 1.0.4.0 of GTA IV, which has the best performance, stability, and graphics of any patch, and which also works best with ENB mods. I am currently using iCEnhancer 2.0, but I suggest you wait for iCEnhancer 2.1 to come out, as the creator says it will work with all patches of GTA IV and EFLC!
