Beginner question, how does it all work

Featured Replies

I have been watching Stevethegames55 video on youtube for a while. Pretty cool stuff.

So please forgive me, have no idea how all this works.

I would like to play GTA  and be the police too :) How does this work?

First I need to buy the game, after that is it just as simple as downloading some kind of pack and install it? Or is it a lot more complicated and if so where do I start? Is there a tutorial for beginners that explains how it works?

Big Thanks in advance!

Once you understand it, it's easy. As a completely new beginner such as you, it's going to be quite daunting.

Basically once you get the game you download the LSPD First Response mod. This is the base mod. You can play with just that in your game just fine, however it will be quite basic.

From there you can download extra 'plugins' for the game. These can be callout packs that give you a wider variety of emergencys to respond to, or tools to help you as a police officer and to make it more realistic. Most of these require you to already have LSPD:FR, but not all do.

If you want to make your game look and feel more realistic you can download modded cars or car packs. These give you real life or made up police cars that just differ from the stock standard GTA cars. many of these cars require another mod called ELS. This mod gives you much more realistic emergency lights.

You can also make other modifications to your game, such as new police uniforms, weapons, sounds or graphics enhancers to make your game look better in general.

Hopefully someone else can provide tutorials to add onto this

Macgregor is right - Its going to take some time to get used to GTA modding. If you need any help, of course after you attempt to locate the issue yourself, just ask in the correct forum section. The community is usually always willing to help out!

As for tutorials, I have always and will continue to recommend Jeff Favignano's video. It may be an hour long, but it covers just about everything you need to know. That video can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCAuilz1nbs&t=5s Just because its almost 2 years old, the process is still just about the same.

As for another tutorial, Albo1125, who creates amazing plugins, also created a more recent version of how to install everything. Its a bit more spliced up into different videos, but the playlist can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLEKypmos74W8PMP4k6xmVxpTKdebvJpFb

Awesome thanks guys.

As far as the modded car packs and other plugins...in general, could I download and install as many as I want to make the game as realistic as possible....or will they conflict with each other and is there some kind of rule which ones work together and which ones don't?

Will watch the videos later today. Thanks again for the help already.

learn one aspect at a time, get comfortable with it, then move to the next. a lot of peeps want to everything at once, and that leads to uninstalling/reinstalling. a lot.

Not a good start, can't seem to start the game without windows telling me "GTA V has stopped working..."

I have a HD Graphics 4600 video card. So either this is the issue or the issue is that I had to install it on my external HD (other software runs fine from it)...

Any suggestions? I only have a 128GB SSD, there is no way I can free up over 60GB's.

Thanks for the response @SpikeTerm

I was just trying to start GTA V (without LSPDFR installed). I will try to install LSPDFR and the other things I need and hope to get lucky and have it work after.

I personally wont be installing anything LSPDFR related until everything gets updated. LSPDFR only requires RAGE to work, but there are so many other things that require other things to work.

I believe modded cars require ScripthookV to work. Plus most plugins arent updated, either. As for modded car packs, you will need an updated gameconfig.xml if you want to add more slots to the game (EG: Police5, Police6, Police7, and so on...) Look up a tutorial on how to install add-on cars. Its pretty basic.

When the plugins do update and you can actually install them and get them working with RAGE .52, all plugins should be "Compatible" so to speak with other plugins. However, keep in mind that GTA V is a CPU intensive game, and adding a crap ton of plugins on top of that is going to reduce your FPS dramatically. I tend to only have minimal plugins installed (Most of Albo's with maybe two or three other plugins) to keep FPS high. Of course, if you're one of those people fine with 20 FPS on normal settings with a crap ton of plugins you don't use, feel free to install every single one out there (Well, not EVERY single one, as later versions will crash your game...)

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

EDIT: Also, quote the person you are referring back to. That way we get a notification and can help you out quicker.

@NewbCrazy thanks for your response. WIll follow your advice.

I do have one more question before I start this whole process. I received the game today. Installed it....then when I try to start the game I get a windows error.

I am not quite sure if you advice me to just ignore the error and install everything regardless...?

An update from my side: put a fresh version of Windows on my computer and now it all works.

I just tried tried to install the Traffic Policer and Arrest Manager from Albo. When I start LSPDFR i get a message that both mods do not support the current version of GTA V.

Is there anyway how can I have the mods work? Is there a way to downgrade GTA's version?

Thanks guys. |Your time is much appreciated!

albos stuff is dead in the water till he updates it...with out a back up of 1011 kinda screwed,

Understand this is a PHENOMENAL modded game, at the same time it's the buggiest game you will ever come across. When you have 1000 chefs in the kitchen, when the food is good its GREAT, but also when it's bad, it's downright horrible.

Code 3 Callouts
